Bleeding in 2WW

Hi everyone, first time poster here.

We have been going through fertility treatment (ICSI) and had our transfer of a 5 day embryo on 17th Jan. On Sunday I started spotting, that continued on Monday and then turned to light bleeding on Tues through to this morning (Thurs).

Obviously we assumed the worst. I did a test on Tuesday to put us out of our misery, but it was faint positive. Today is 15dpt and my OTD and still we've got a faint positive.

Either it's the progesterone holding up my period and we've had a chemical pregnancy or (the more unlikely option) despite the bleeding, I am still pregnant.

I know the likelihood is low, it's definitely more than spotting, but not near as heavy as my period flow. Has anyone had this happen for better or worse? We're now waiting to do a test again in a few days and it just feels like we're on a slow march to bad news 💔

This happened to me on my second fresh transfer which was a chemical/early loss. But then I'd had a loss on the fresh transfer immediately before and didn't get any spotting. Then on our successful FET (and subsequent natural pregnancy) I got spotting/bleeding around implantation and then when period was due, and first time whenever I came off progesterone support. In between, a BFN on a FET, and no spotting at all. So I think it can be a sign of a chemical, or equally nothing at all to worry about. That may be very unhelpful but just I'm not sure you can take much from that particular symptom. Only definitive way to know is an HCG test, and ideally getting it repeated two days later to see if it's doubling. But you don't have to obviously and you could keep using the urine tests, and if they stay quite faint then it may not be worth doing. Have you told your clinic about the spotting? They can normally check your progesterone levels or prescribe extra to make sure the spotting isn't something to do with that. It's a really hard time though and I'm sorry you're going through it.

Thank you so much for the reply, you're so right it's just so hard to tell and impossible not to hope, but also trying to be realistic and feeling sad about the likely failure. I called the clinic this morning to report the positive test and explain the symptoms, they've advised to continue the progesterone I'm doing currently (pessary) and test again in a few days/a week. In that time either the bleeding will turn to a period or it will stop and then the tests will get fainter or more positive. The waiting is just brutal isn't it!

It's a horrible limbo, mine never got any heavier to be a full period and then there were the times I didn't spot or bleed at all, probably as you say, due to the progesterone. Having been through it once, after that I just gots HCGs done very early as then at least I knew one way or the other, but I think most clinics say just carry on with the meds and keep testing - it won't change the outcome whichever way sadly and I've often had to pay for the HCGs so may not be worth doing here if you can hold out. Other thing is getting a progesterone test (my GP did those) just in case it's progesterone that's the issue but then if it was a fresh transfer maybe the clinic don't consider it as relevant.
