Ubiquinol or Ubiquinone???

I'm taking Coq10 in the lead up to my 2nd IVF egg retrieval in the hope of improving egg quality (along with diet changes). Most of my eggs were immature in the 1st round leading to poor results...I've noticed many people recommend Uniquinol and I've just noticed I've been taking Ubiquinone. I bought the Coq10 from Holland and Barrat UK, can someone explain to me in layman's terms what the difference is and if I should switch asap? I spent £100 on the Holland and Barrat ones which is annoying! Any other tips on how to best ensure eggs are mature enough are also welcome! Thanks xx

someone will say this better than I can, but I believe ubiquinone isn’t ingested as easily, so although your body will convert to ubiquinol, it’s already had a lower dose to start with, then is converting less. So on the flip side, ubiquinol is higher grade, more easily absorbed and therefore absorbing more overall.

But higher ££ is ubiquinol!

I’ve been researching “ovum” a high grade fertility multivitamin that focuses on egg quality. I don’t think they use ubiquinol due to the cost, but they say a higher grade coQ10. Might be worth a look, it was created with ivf doctors 💜

Thank you ❣️ I've never heard of Ovum but will look it up ☺️ Im hoping the changes in my diet along with the supplements make the difference needed for success this time around 🥺 xx

I hadn’t either, the founder was on the “fertility life raft” podcast and sounds really well researched. Hope it all goes well for you, you’re doing everything you can 💜

you might need to up the dose of what you have to make it equivalent to ubiquinol as I don’t think it’s as strong in terms of what is absorbed/converted but depends on what dose you are taking just now (this is all knowledge from google btw so please do t quote me on it 😂) Both are shown to potentially help though I think one is just absorbed more easily so defo not money down the drain for you! I’m currently trying 600mg ubiquinol at 41 to see if that makes any difference to my next round too xx

Hope it goes make a difference for u 💗☺️ I was awake until 2am last night reading everything and anything on egg quality, I ended up ordering Ovum have u tried/heard of that? I hadn't until someone on here mentioned it, I currently take pregnacare max for conception but planning to make the switch when it arrives (ordered it mainly for the coq10 aspect!) Xx

Yeah I had heard of it but opted for impyrl instead in last round as the consultant had mentioned that one but then found out you weren’t meant to take it with cq10 🤪 as they counter act each other so I’ve went back to pregnacare with the stronger dose ubiquinol for this next round as last one ended in missed miscarriage so I want to do everything I can to try for a wee healthy egg 🤞🏽

can you take ovum with the ubiquinol do you know? I’m happy to add anything in this time 😂 and still about 8 weeks away from egg collection

There's some good info on the Ovum website which explains the coq10...apparently they don't use ubiquinol or Ubiquinone but an active ingredient of coq10 which has great results 🤷 I probably wouldn't suggest taking Ovum with your other fertility supplement as I think the ingredients are strong! I honestly don't know...this whole thing is such a minefield, we could probably become scientists ourselves after a couple of rounds of IVF...I just wish I'd known about the impact of all these supplements before starting IVF, I was naive in just thinking it would happen if it's ment to (but with my eggs it seems I need all the help I can get!) Xx

I will have a wee look thanks ☺️ tbh I’m still not sure how much difference they make I took them when I was doing IUI years ago with no luck and then stopped thinking about supplements, what I ate/drank etc to help my mental health for my first round of IVF and got 6 embryos (one of which is my wee boy) so I was never a big believer in any of the pressure to buy all these expensive supplements or books but now trying for a sibling I’ve had miscarriage after miscarriage and only one or 2 embryos each collection for transfer so I’m willing to try everything now as I don’t think it can do any harm (except to the bank balance!!) but it’s a minefield of what to get as everyone has different opinions (including the doctors!) best of luck to you 🤗💜

Sorry for Ur losses 😔💔 it's the hardest journey ever but hopefully pushing through will give your wee one the sibling you've been waiting for 💗 and you are so right, EVERYONE has a different opinion on what does/doesn't help! I've had two transfers so far and both ended in early MC - first one at 5.5 weeks so it was the highest high followed by the lowest low, and I totally get the mental health thing...I couldn't sleep last night for thinking about blood supplements and trying to decided which one to chose (either way its going to break the bank!) So we all need to be more kind to ourselves - and still eat lots of salad and green things 😂 xx

I believe you can take ubiquinone but need to take more of it to be equivalent to ubiquinol. As far as I’m aware that’s the only real difference.

Thank you 💗 currently taking 600mg of Ubiquinone but planning to switch multivitamin to one with the right coq10 (when it arrives in the post this week!) Xx

Hi,

I've just started taking Bio-quinone Gold (produced by Pharma Nord), which is recommended in the book "It starts with the egg" (Rebecca Fett). Apparently this is the best when it comes to absorption into the body (even better, it seems, than ubiquinol). I've bought a package of 150 capsules from ebay at a relative ok price (£49.99). Not sure how effective it is (I've only started). I've already had a first IVF round with a fresh embryo that failed implanting and I'm preparing for a frozen transfer.

Hope this helps. Wish you good luck and may your dream of having a baby come true!

Cristina

Thank you 💗 my copy of that book is arriving today!! Looking forward to reading it 😃 I ordered the fertility supplement Ovum because many people were saying it contains all the recommendations from that book! Best of luck to you in round 2...I'm also preparing for round 2 after failed transfers xx

Hey- thanks for the recommendation. I’m going to order that type now for when my current ones run out 🤗 also sorry to butt in but just in case it saves you money, as you’ve already had egg collection, you don’t really need to take this for a frozen transfer prep as it’s for egg quality (although obvs if you are trying natural in between it still helps) and maybe mention to the clinic when you should stop is as I’m sure you shouldn’t take it during the 2ww etc 🤗 I was taking this for a sum hike longer than I needed on my successful collection and I could have saved some pennies 💰xx

Thank you, that's very helpful to know! Yes, we're trying to conceive naturally before the transfer, so I'm trying to up my chances as much as possible. I haven't taken any supplements before the egg collection, but it seemed to be ok: out of 15 eggs, 13 were mature. We fertilised 8 (5 fertilised and 3 made it to day 5, but only one embryo was suitable for transfer and 1 for fresh), and we still have 5 frozen eggs. I'm not sure though how many of them are chromosomally normal (we have unexplained infertility) and the clinic we've been with doesn't do the genetic testing. We've decided to go to a different clinic (long story about the current clinic) and do a genetic testing on the embryo and on the remaining eggs if the embryo has chromosomal abnormality - we just want to save the emotional exhaust that goes with the transfer and waiting (we've had a really bad time after the unsucessful fresh transfer). In the meantime, we hope something may happen naturally, so we're both (my husband and I) are taking suplements just in case. Once we start the process of frozen transfer, I'll stop taking them.

Good luck and hope your journey is successful!

Sorry to jump in. I've got this same version. How much were you taking? Thanks x

I've only just started, but the recommendation in the book "It starts with the egg" is of 400mg/day. Each pill from Pharma Nord is 100 mg, so I've started taking 2 pills twice a day with lunch and dinner. I also take some extra vitamins (both my husband and I take) called Pregnacare and Wellman, and an extra vit D, also following what I've been reading from that book.

My fertility doctor advised taking folic acid and vit D before we had the first round of IVF, but I don't think it made a significant enough difference.

This whole supplements issue is taking over my life to the point I'm actually getting stressed about it ... My copy of the book u mention is arriving tonight so I'm hoping once I've read that I can just make a decision and chill out 😂
