5 eggs collected

I am finding it hard to not worry with only 5 eggs collected.

First EC; I had 8 eggs but only two fertilised and made it to day 3. One luckily stuck and we have a beautiful girl

Second EC; 10 eggs and two made it to day 5. BFN x 2

Third EC; only 5 eggs…

Feeling nervous with these numbers esp how the numbers dwindle down.

Now the agonising wait to see if fertilisation goes well.

any positive stories?

Hi. Oh I do hope all works out for you and they fertilise. Thinking of you. Diane

When I had my egg collection a few years ago I only got 3. All 3 fertilized. All 3 made day 5 blast. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Yes, first time we got 9 eggs but poor fertilisation and 3 blasts, second time 5 eggs but all fertilised and went to blast - had a successful FET from those. I think the first time was a sperm quality issue so not necessarily fewer eggs = better quality (although will never know), just don't worry too much about the numbers. Best of luck for the next few days!

Not really, my OH had been on fertility supplements for longer the second time I guess and first time he'd had a bad cold a month before whch at the time the doctors said was probably the reason for the one-off. But there was only a month between collections so that seemed odd. When we went back to the clinic last year I asked again and they went through their records and confessed that actually the sample had been left far too long before being used. That would make sense for such a big change so that was upsetting, but we won't know for certain that's why the fertilisation wasn't great. Things that did make a difference over the years of being tested pre IVF though were OH giving up vaping and his results were best when he'd stopped drinking for 3+months and taking supplements, so those are things to consider.

They transferred the best one on day 3. It was a 3AA. I think they do early transfers when there’s less eggs incase none make it to day 5.

The other two turned out to be 5AAs! Fingers crossed for you xxx

So we were faced with the option of a day 3 transfer. Only two have survived today (day 2). I had the option of double vs single. But I have decided to go with single day 3 transfer because I just couldn’t risk twins. My clinic don’t actually promote day 3 transfers, but were happy to accommodate me. So I’m in for a day three transfer tomorrow!

Also, was it successful???

My day 3 wasn’t I think because my progesterone was too low. I bled quite soon after. For my second transfer they tested my progesterone and now I’m almost 12 weeks. I’ve seen so many successful day 3 transfer I’m sure I read that years ago that’s all they used to do- day 5 blastocysts weren’t a thing yet! GOOD LUCK X
