hey

me and my partner stopped smoking months ago how ever when he has a drink he grabs a vape ,i just worried as we have last appointment at the hospital to sign our nhs paper for referral for ifv 3 days after we come back from a holiday , after a beer or two a vape may come out so just worried does the test happen when you sign your forms at the hospital or at the actual ivf clinic .

any info would be greatly appreciated

Hi TTCtiverton. Throw the vapes away!! You want your baby - it can be picked up, and watch that alcohol too, please. Good luck. Diane

I don't recall having a carbon monoxide test when we got our NHS funding agreed, they usually take your word for it if you say non-smoker and I'm not sure of a test available to tell if someone vapes. With regards alcohol he will want to cease drinking in the lead up to providing sperm for your treatment, but you will be advised on that by your clinic (although he sooner the better to avoid delays!)

Hi neither of me or my partner are smokers however we attened my sisters wedding on the Friday and we had a appointment at the hospital on the monday. My husband ended up smoking a cigar at the wedding with the boys. On the mondqy they went to test us. I explained about my husband and we ended up delaying the application for nhs funding due to the likely hood of him failing it. It was only by one month and obviously it was a complelty one off incident but we were both so annoyed. Never gave it a thought because we are both none smokers so anytime they said they would test us it was never a issue. After a successful frozen round and when we wanted to try again, we obviously went private and i don't recall getting tested.

I would honestly not vaoe just incase it impacts the application for NHS. Good luck

our carbon monoxide test was at the clinic at our initial appointment to place us in a waiting list after that test my wife was sent away to come back 3 months later as she hadn’t fully stopped(which delayed us being out in the list by those 3 months) , she slipped up several times in the 3 months (including vapes) but had been 💯 clear at least a week nearer 2 weeks before the 2nd test and she passed it. So if recommend absolutely nothing at lest a fortnight before but small slip ups in the months before were okay on our instance (to pass the test). obviously the affects on the actual sperm need to be considered too but if you dont even have funding yet plenty of time to be smoke and vape free prior to the actual treatment 🤗

it delays it sooo much if he doesn’t pass. I’d really ask yourself if it’s worth it. I had a holiday before the ivf and I didn’t drink or anything it wasn’t as good a holiday but you’ve waited so long well we had. Xxx
