Hi we did a round of reciprocal IVF in November which unfortunately failed.

we had 13 eggs collected of which only 1 fertilized.

we are now starting our second round and wondering if to change the sperm donor or starting fresh with a new one. Has anyone else been in this situation?

You could change the sperm donor but you may wish to change/tweak the protocol first. IVF is very trial and error. What has your dr suggested?

Hi- If ot we’re me I would speak to the embryologist or your consultant to see what the suggest and if the low fertilisation is sperm or egg related in their opinion. Did they do ICSI? If you don’t have any sperm purchased then yeah May as well try a different donor if you have no attachments to this one but if you have some from the same donor already then it’s a big cost to buy more if the embryologist doesn’t suggest it. Hi,On my first IVF go, I got 19 eggs and only 1 fertilised, so the second time they used ICSI and 14 fertilised out of 25, so that if worth doing. I would change donor though, as sometimes it's compatibility.

Good luck.

We changed donors when we changed clinics (despite having a euploid embryo at the old clinic)! We'd done 5 transfers (6 embryos) with the one donor and no luck. Although docs and embryologists said there was no need to change (and that donor had proven fertility), we still changed. And it worked with the new clinic! (no idea if it was the new clinic, or new protocol or new sperm, but it did work straight away. First try mc, but second time success (so far 26 weeks). We just felt it was another thing we could change and it was easier at this clinic with in-house sperm bank.

Hi, I suffered a chemical miscarriage last month, after a straight forward egg collection, sperm donor usage and embryo transfer.

If you had no problems with the donor, I would suggest keeping the same one. We are beginning our second round soon and I did think about using a different donor but because we had no problems with our original one and would rather not go through the whole choosing process again, we are sticking with the same one.

It is your decision and if the reasons the treatment failed was due to compatibility then yes think about changing donor. Good luck whatever you decide and I hope you have good news after your next cycle x

We have incredibly poor sperm and did a number of rounds of isci in 2020/2021 and only got one blast, and that is now my daughter.

Unfortunately it is very common to have to do a few rounds.

Did they use any sperm selection techniques?
