Poor stims response - am I out?

AMH 4.8 AFC 8 (4 in each ovary)

Been on Pergoveris 250 and had a day 5 scan yesterday. 0 follicles in left ovary, 5 in right but less than 6mm.

Dose has been increased to 350 and another scan in 3 days.

Do you think there is any hope of this leading to an egg collection or should I face the fact this probably won’t work?

hi Colincat! I recently had a similar result in my cycle. 3 follicles in first day 6 scan, upped meds and ended up with 7 follicles, 5 eggs retrieved and 2 embryos transferred. Have a cautious bfp now. I didn’t believe it, but it can change for the better. Good luck! ❤️

A lot can change in a few days. I was put on a very low dose initially and very little happened at all (one large and a few very small) so they kept upping the meds, finally to 350 and it was only the last few days that most of them caught up - think I was stimming for 17 days in all, so a long time, but got 9 eggs. Similar thing happened second round at a different clinic and I was advised to cancel because I have a very high amh and they thought they could get more (plus I again had one big dominant follicle), but because of what happened first time I asked to keep going - got 5 that time and all went to blast. I always get more from the right ovary (possibly all of them came from the right last time, can't recall) and it' quite common for one to be 'lazy'. I'd be happy with 5 follicles on one side at the stage your at, but depends on a lot of factors. Usually your clinic will give you the choice to keep going and wait and see, then if there really isn't much happening by say day 10, you could look at cancelling.

Yes thank you, I had success on the second round (from the batch I was advised to cancel 😀) and have frosties from both rounds so really don't give up hope at this stage - my first scans have always been pretty disappointing compared to predictions.

Try not to lose hope. I had a day 8 scan and only had 1 follicle ( I think I had 2 or 3 others but they were all about 2mm) so barely there. Day 11 scan I had over 10 big ones, and on egg collection they managed to get 19 eggs, 17 of which fertilised. Don't give up yet 👏🏼

day 5 is still very early we don’t even get a first scan until day 7 so I would say there’s still reason to hope for this round with 5 at 6mm and your meds upped 🤗 wishing you lots luck l, grow follicles grow!!! 🤞🏽 xx

Morning, I posted something very similar before Christmas. I was told to cancel as I only had four follicles growing and they were all smaller than the clinic wanted. In the end two caught up and I pushed to go ahead with egg retrieval. I got two eggs but only one fertilised which I’m about to have transferred. I was hoping for more but see this as a positive result. I have low AMH of 3.8 and AFC 9 and was told to expect 1-2 eggs. I was started on the max dose of stims because of my levels. Maybe you could ask your clinic why they started you off lower. Wishing you lots and lots of luck xx

It happened to me. No reaction adter 5 days. They increased the dosis 75ml, still nothing then like 10 days after i went from very small follicles to 30. Sometimes tou just need a bit more time. In my case I have PCOS and supossedly I respond (too) well to treatment. But my response is always very slow, and nothing is happening and they think on cancelling. And then too much happens all at once.

Yes, remember: doctors work with statistics. Some patients might behave a bit different. I was very worried, and my doctor at the time said it was because of my weight, and that was the reason it was not working. I got really depressed. It resulted that I just needed a bit more time. I vhsnged clinics after and they told me that it is not so uncommon to take a bit more time and then suddenly all works. It is very unpredictable.
