frozen cycle medication questions

hi everyone ,

I’m only on my second day of estrogen tablets 3x a day and I feel so sick , did anyone have this and did your dose need amending ? My clinic haven’t done any blood tests on me to check my levels pre cycle or during my previous fresh back in November. I know sometimes hormone levels going to high can affect implantation ? Should I be asking for a blood test from my clinic ?

I don’t want to be telling my clinic how to do their job but at the same time I want this to work more than anything !

I’ve never had estrogen levels checked. I find I need to eat with the estrogen tablets and I used to have to when I was on the pill too.

I’ve never had levels checked with my own IVF cycle or donor cycles. I’ve always felt a bit sickly with Estrogen directly after taking them and it passed quite quickly, 30 mins or so. Give your Clinic a quick call to put your mind at ease, they get these sort of questions all the time…your not telling them how to do there job, it’s your body and they are medical professionals who have your interests at the forefront too

Hope everything goes well for you.

I felt horrendous on them. The nurse at my clinic said they're 'evil' tablets, so definitely not unusual to feel ill on them. I think normally you get used to them or feel better of you take them with food, or when you start on progesterone too, but nothing worked for me. I also felt sick on the pill and generally don't get on well with oestrogen, so I think my reaction was quite extreme and lots of women are absolutely fine on 3 per day. But if you feel really unwell and not getting better/eating doesn't help, speak to your clinic - mine were ok to reduce my dose down to one a day as by my first scan my lining had got really thick and uneven which they said was probably from an over response to the oestrogen. They may want to do a scan before suggesting that though to give the meds time to work.

I've been on them for about a week now (2 in the morning and 2 on the evening) and I don't feel very well either. Struggling to get out of bed in the morning as I'm super tired. I'm a very active person and usually don't feel sick after running, but I almost threw up after going for a run the other day. I think everyone responds to them differently. I'm quite sensitive to hormonal changes anyway, so I tend to experience the side-effects of everything, from feeling unwell to having trouble focusing. Try and take it easy x

HI Natasha. Definitely discuss the dose with clinic. You may just be a bit sensitive to it. Hope you feel better soon. Diane

Are you taking them all together? I spaced mine out throughout the day and that helped stop my nausea. Might be worth trying if you are taking them all at the same time!

no I take them every 6 hours , clinic said to take with food like you lovely ladies mentioned and it’s completely normal to feel sick . Hopefully it will ease up the further in I get as I’m only three days in xxx

Hi Natasha, I second what others have said - feeling sick is unfortunately pretty normal on estrogen tablets. I tend to find it is worse for about an hour after taking them so I tend to take them and then make myself a lemon and ginger tea and a slice of toast or something. That seems to help with the nausea. Hopefully it calms down a bit once you get used to them. I usually find it is worst after a couple of days at the start and then gets better, then gets a bit worse again when I start taking progesterone too and then gets better again, so hopefully you adjust too x

How are you ? I think you said you were waiting for Feb for another go ? I’ll try the lemon and ginger tea , thanks for suggestion xx

Hi Natasha, yes that's right - our next opportunity for a FET is in February. I'm also waiting on a review consultation before that. I'm OK thanks. Feeling physically fine off the drugs and it has been nice to have a little break. I've eaten all the pate and salmon over Christmas 🤣 Christmas has been really hard emotionally so I just kept very busy, stayed off social media and even muted my whatsapp for a couple of days, and pleased it is over now! x

Urgh yes they made me feel gross and really exacerbated morning sickness when the FET worked. I have no solution other than waiting it out. Nothing made the nausea better. Hopefully that won’t be the case for you and the progesterone makes the nausea better! Xx

I don’t know if this option is available where you are but in my clinic in the US my Dr put me on two Delestrogen injections twice a week. It’s so much better than taking 3 pills a day (I’ve done that before for a few of my transfers). It’s way better tolerated and it’s a slow release and just twice a week. The injection isn’t a painful one. Maybe worth checking

Ive never had levelschecked either beforehand, I don’t think it matters, especially for a FET (I’ve had quite a few) they do make you feel a bit yuck. On my successful FET I asked my clinic if I could move them to the evening as then I could just go lie down (I was taking 4 tablets all at once in the morning) I had to keep taking them until 12 weeks and the mornings were already bad enough with morning sickness they made it 10 times worse!. That defo helped. Spacing them out was actually worse for me as I tried that previously. I had them after dinner then went for a lie down not long after. I also found I had to take them seperate from my multi vitamins as for some reason that made it worse too! Hope you feel better soon! X

I also felt so so poorly on them both FET one was a MC one was a BFN. I’m going to try oestrogen patches next? Just changing them a few times a week! That’s something to consider lovely x

I’m not taking the tablets, but Everol patches for fet. Might be worth checking if this is an option for you. My doctor said she prefers the patches over tablets.

I’m on day 8 of Progynova, 3x 2mg tablets per day to be taken all together at the same time. I take it at night around dinner time and the day after I always feel sick and with bad stomach cramps. It seems to be better one day and again worse the day after. I also feel so so so tired all the time. As far as I can read from the other comments, it’s quite common. So you’re not alone ❤️

Hi Natasha,

I’m on day 12 now and taking 5 a day, two in the morning with breakfast and three with dinner. Seems like I got used to it now, or maybe it helps now as I’m on progesterone as well. I did feel a bit yuk then I was on 3 tablets a day, tummy used to get very upset and fingers would swell up within 30mins or so and then would get better until I take another dose in the evening. Spoken to my clinic about it and they have suggested to take Centrizine antihistamine tablets which helps with allergic reactions. So I am taking them as well now just in case upto the transfer day which is next week.

I’ve never heard anyone would check their oestrogen levels. My clinic will only check my progesterone levels on a day of transfer. I had a fresh transfer in November and that didn’t work, felt like my body wasn’t getting enough of progesterone, I was on Crinone 8% then. So this time will do a frozen one and they put me on Cyclogest pessaries which seem to be working well so far… and crazy enough then I have started oestrogen tablets my tummy got very upset from them though I was taking them with food. So now been few days since I have started progesterone pessaries which I’m using through the back passage, this sorted out my tummy. No issues with it.
