I have a very thick lining, my last egg collection scan showed a thickness of 15.85mm. The Drs proceeded with a 5 day transfer despite my concerns which resulted in a failed implantation and a period after 9 days.
I have had a biopsy and there is no concern there. The Drs keep pacifying me and not coming up with a plan to reduce my lining which is any different to previous failed attempts such as nortisterone. They now want to try again and do a freeze all and when I have asked what about my lining I had a response "we will deal with that when we get to it".
Has anyone been in a similar situation and what treatment did you recieve to thin your lining. Every suggestion such as clomid or long protocol they have refused so I feel really stuck.
What makes it harder is none of my eggs were frozen so I have one more chance so I really need to try and improve my chances.
Thanks to anyone that responds xx

I’ve had a few frozen transfers so got to know my lining pretty well. I too noticed my lining on the day 10 scan was quite thick, and given I would continue to take estrogen tablets for a further 5 days after the scan whilst I introduced progesterone, I worried it would get too thick by the time of transfer (although there is no upper limit for thickness, just recommendations).
I have always been prescribed up to 4 estrogen tablets a day to prepare for FET (gradually increasing tablets every few days). As these tablets are responsible for thickening the lining, two transfers ago, I asked if I could only increase to 3 tablets a day, the Dr agreed.
This time round, my lining was approx 3mm thinner on the day 10 scan which I was happier with.
Speak to your Dr about options. Your body may just not fit ‘protocol.’
Progynova 2mgs. If I recall correctly, I started out with 2 per day, then increased to 3 approx 5 days in. I would then have ordinarily increase to 4 tablets a day after day 10 scan but as mentioned, I asked if I could remain on 3/day as lining was already showing as quite thick on the scan.
See what your experts think. We’re all different, but this might be one way to go.
Am assuming you had that measurement done after egg collection on a fresh transfer? If that's right, I'm not sure my clinic have ever told me my lining measurements on a fresh transfer, but they monitor it much more closely on a FET. Maybe that's because it's always been ok, or maybe they're not as concerned on a fresh as it's usually thick from all the oestrogen after the egg collection. All they ever said to me was you're lining's nice and thick, so it seemed to be a good thing. The only time it was an issue was on a FET when it got thick very quickly and became uneven, apparently because I over-respond to oestrogen (progynova), so they reduced me from 3 tablets a day to 1 a day, and that seemed to even it out. They seem to be more bothered about unevenness (as this can imoact implantation) and that there are three obvious layers than it being too thick - did they say anything about three or triple layers? (May be worth asking). I wouldn't get too disheartened re freeze all, all three of my fresh transfers ended early (most recently in a PUL) and I think my body is just not recovered enough after collection, whereas my first FET was successful. On FETs they monitor your lining very carefully and increase or decrease the meds, or keep you on them longer, to get the conditions right, plus the progesterone tends to shrink the lining a little bit. You could also consider a natural or natural modified FET - that's suitable if you ovulate regularly, naturally have a good lining and your progesterone is OK x
Hi sammears. Perhaps a mild approach with your protocol, perhaps with some oestrogen too? Obviously, I do wish you well and hope next time is your time. Diane
Hi this happened to me at my third egg collection last year , my lining went too thick around 15.4 or something which had never happened before , so I was told that fresh transfer was cancelled had to wait for a bleed & be scanned a month later. My lining then was fine. I was on a higher does of stims for that round & an extra day so I thought the excess hormones caused my thick lining which the consultant said is probably right.
I went on to have two frozen transfers where my lining was fine no mention of too thick.
I have had another egg collection today ,’y lining was worrying me throughout the stims as it seeming thick at my day 8 scan , but today they said it was fine , not too thick.
I have done the long protocol on all of my treatment . I didn’t have anything in particular to treat those lining issues apart from slightly lower dose stims.
Maybe they can see how things go with your next cycle , your lining might not go as thick . Best of luck x
