Double transfer
Hiya I’d had six single transfers with a mix of (short lived) positives and negatives and my seventh transfer was a double. I’m currently 23 weeks pregnant (one baby) but I do always wonder if it would have been successful had only one been transferred but I will never know! Best of luck with your next transfer x
Congratulations!! This will be my 5th transfer all singles. Clinic isn’t keen on double yet due to risk of multiple but I really want to just go for it. X
Hiya, sorry to jump on, but our clinic wasn’t keen either. We had to sign a lot of paperwork about the risks of multiples… but like alwaysbelieving we had had several failed single transfers and decided to go for it with a double when we felt we only had it in us for one last try. We had looked at the numbers and we knew that it’s increased our chances of achieving a pregnancy. We’d never had a BFP before. We ended up with Twins - both stuck! Again we would never know if either would have stuck if we’d only transferred one. I do believe that when you get your BFP that’s works that it’s because all the physiological stars aligned!
Regarding having multiples themselves, I won’t lie, it’s hard! We had a really difficult pregnancy and they came extremely early! Now our case was extreme but twins do tend to come a bit earlier and usually that includes a hospital stay. So you might want to consider that. You might also want to consider your support network. We don’t have any one near by and it’s been really challenging! I think things would be much easier if I had family around to help out. Multiples is just a lot more work! I don’t intend to put you off, but I do think you should consider this before going ahead.
Also, consider that by putting two in there are always the chances that one or both embryos would split and you would end up with 3 or 4! They freaked us out in the scan when they told us it was twins and then said ‘just need to check they haven’t split!’ 😮🤣
Having said all of this, our girls are incredible! And I wouldn’t want to only have had one… even knowing how hard it would be. Watching them interact is amazing and we dont need to try for anymore! So that’s handy 😂
Whatever you decide will be the right choice. Good luck!
Xxxx
Oh wow!! Congrats!
My clinic are not at all keen and have mentioned forms etc but I’m not sure if that means ok if you sign the forms or not tbh!
I’m single 🙈 But I do have an amazing support network. My mum lives v close and I’d have to tell her to back off rather than help more! I also have a friend 1.5hrs away who visits every couple of months to stay for a few days, a friend who doesn’t work who lives close by, and another couple of friends who I’m really close to - one will be my birthing partner.
Yes the clinics concern is that this will be my 1st FET after fresh (5th overall) and previously they had a double transfer where one split! Now that I cannot imagine!!! 🙈
I have friends who are triplets and their bond is amazing. And they got free stuff literally everywhere we went when they were younger!
My transfers are included in my programme so twins would suit me tbh as I always wanted 2 children but won’t be able to afford another transfer after a successful pregnancy.
Thankyou for your message. It was really helpful x
Well it sounds like you have your decision! 🥰 and like you’ve thought it through… I guarantee though you will want as much help as you can get, especially in the beginning, just because calming two screaming babies single handed is soooo hard! Doable but HARD!!
Honestly though I think once you sign the forms you’ve basically waved the blame if you end up with 4 babies 😂 and they will support you. I think in my teacher they double checked I wanted two.
I wish you all the sticky luck! Some Pele are made to be twin parents and it sounds like you might just be! And as a single parent - amazing!! 🤩
Let us know how it goes and if you do end up with multiples, happy to answer any questions and share useful resources.

I think I had made the decision really but was wavering with the clinic scaring me with stories of triplets!
I reckon I could give it a go with 2! Once get past the first couple of months which are going to be hard anyways I’m sure it would be fine! I know my mum would be very hands on 1 or 2.
I’ve followed you on here and I’m hoping to pop in your inbox in the future saying oh crap guess what - I need all the advice ya got!!! X
Hi, I had 2 single transfers both failed, 3rd transfer was a double I got pregnant to one baby but had a silent miscarriage at 9 weeks and my 4th transfer was a double transfer and I'm currently 16 weeks and 1 day pregnant with one baby, I wish you all the best for your next transfer
Ohhh congrats!!! I think I’m going to push for a double x
Congrats 🎉 Curious for your first test did you get a strong dark line or faint. I transferred 2 embryos and my line is somewhat faint although I haven’t had much symptoms. Really want twins
I’ve had single transfer that split into twins and double transfer resulting in one live birth.
hi I had a double transfer with with my first round which result in my daughter who’s now 3! I’ve since had 3 failed fet - 2 single and 1 double. x

i had double transfer due to my medical history and conceived twins on my first cycle. My girls are 6.5 months old
I had a double which progressed to twins. Then vanishing twin syndrome at 7 weeks. I had a single live birth as a result of that transfer.
Double transfer resulted in both implanting but both blighted ovums, torn over what to try next!
I’ve had a few double transfers and they have all been BFPs but chemicals but it did seem to increase the chance of implantation for us as singles have been a mixture of miscarriage , successful and BFNs. It really depends on the individual circumstance though and the 2 embryos. Best of luck to you 💜🤗 xx
Single transfer - miscarriage 8 weeks
Natural conception - miscarriage 10 weeks
Single transfer - BFN
Double transfer - BFP, now 13 weeks with twins
my double transfer ended in a BFN. For my first round my clinic wasn’t keen for a double but offered on the second to increase the odds of it working (although it didn’t) x
We are using DE and a surrogate. My clinic will not transfer 2 embryos for the risks of multiples. At this point, I’m okay with 2. Our 1st transfer was a single… mc at 7 weeks, we are waiting to do our second transfer! I wish they would do double but unfortunately my doctor says no! In my mind, it’s a better chance of at least 1 making it. Makes me think that the clinic only want’s money for multiple cycles if the 1 transfer doesn’t work. I wish you the best!
Are you using a UK clinic? I’m my one NHS round they agreed to double (only had 2) due to my age.
Clinic now are not recommending double due to safety but may consider in future.
I am on a programme so all my transfers are included. X
Hi Doodlebug23,
We are incredibly lucky to have 8 week old twin girls after multiple rounds of ivf. They were embryo 7&8 which were all transferred in pairs, so 6 failed to implant. We were pretty pessimistic of our chances of success so twins was a real miracle for us and clearly the clinic wasn’t expecting both to implant either. As is identified above, twins are a true delight & also a real challenge. I really thought it might be not that much harder than a single baby but the limitation of only having two arms makes things really tricky to juggle both without a good support network. As also mentioned above twins come with more risks in pregnancy & birth and early arrivals are to be expected. The hospital were exceptional with our girls care when they arrived 2 weeks early but I know that we have been particularly lucky to have so few complications. It’s a bigger decision than I had initially thought when we transferred our embryo’s but the joy of having two is truly wonderful! Having seen the logistics of looking after triplets in hospital, the fear of three might have sobered my decision somewhat. For us it is ideal to have twins as we aren’t getting any younger and continuing in pursuit of a sibling would have financially impacted the opportunities of the first child. I wish you well with your decision.
Thankyou for your message. And congratulations. My next transfer will be 5th after 4 failed singles.
I have to admit twins does scare me and I’m hoping enough to realise what I may be letting myself in for! I do have a very good support network however, which is good as I am doing this alone! More than 2 I could just not fathom!
I’m 47 so time isn’t on my side either.. and I’d love 2 children but can’t afford further transfers after a successful pregnancy as they would fall outside of my programme. X
Hi Doodlebug23,
I hope you are well. I had 4 transfers, all BFN. Double transfer for number 5 and now have twins.
I agree with the previous posts regarding the challenges and joys of twins. It is something to consider and also nice to think no more IVF in the attempt for a sibling.
My pregnancy was pretty smooth and very well monitored, the extra scans and midwife appointments always helped.
Good luck with your decision and hope you are successful soon. X
Next transfer will be my 5th! I totally understand the implications of twins but yes for me I can’t afford further IVF for a sibling which I would love (always wanted 2 children). I’m on a programme so my transfers are included until I get a successful pregnancy.
Thankyou for your messsge. It’s really helpful x
Hi Doodlebug23, sorry your transfer failed 😞 mine did too. My consultant said that if my first transfer isn’t successful then we’d transfer two on the second round so I’ll go with that x
I’m heading for transfer 5 and pushing for double but they aren’t keen… Good luck 🤞🏼 x
