Bleeding at BFP

So it was my OTD yesterday and I had been testing positive for a good 5 days. On the night when i was inserting my pessary I noticed blood and it been constant since. My period was suppose to be yesterday as well but my test I took this morning seems to be darker so my head is baffled 🤯. I want to think positive but im convinced its my period. Has anyone else had this and went onto have a successful pregnancy?

Hey, so sorry you have to go through this. Is it red blood and is it a lot that you need a whole pad?

If you don’t have cramps it could just be implantation bleeding. Or other women have shared their experience of finding out they had a hematoma. They went ahead having a healthy pregnancy.

If the bleeding gets worse call your clinic and get checked out. Or even go to A&E of course. Whatever will make you feel at ease.

I had bleeding at 5 weeks (lack of estrogen, mistake by clinic) then spotting at 8 and 10 weeks, but I’m fine as of today (14 weeks).

Sending you a virtual hug x

It's abit of both brown and red! My clinic isn't open on a weekend. So ill just have to hold out till tomorrow and just pray that my test is stronger again in the morning.

I don't know if its making it worse with being on blood thinners, aspirin and steriods. I'm also on 4 cyclogest and 2 lubion a day, so I thought that might of held it off as i usually do have low progesterone.

Sending you baby dust for the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank you :D x

hi Gina baby.

I have heared alot of people bleeding on progesterone as result of irritation. You might want to use them from ‘the back door’. I even had bleeding when using them that way but at least i knew it was from the pessaries.

Did you try to ring your clinic even though they are closed my clinic always was open in the weekend for ladies that had their egg collection.

Good thing is you getting dark lines. Xx

It just seems to be a coincidence that it was suppose to be my period yesterday and then I started bleeding.

I've started doing it up the back passage now .. hopefully it stops soon.

Yeah I've give the clinic a call but its definitely shut on a weekend. I guess ill just have to call first thing in the morning.

Yeah its a relief that my lines are darker but I just cant help but worry myself. It the first time I ever got a positive test after 3 rounds and 5 transfers. xx

hi yes I had lots of bleeding at 5 weeks. But both times it stopped after a few hours. Then mostly spotting almost every day for the first trimester. Mine was definitely from progesterone. The pessaries irritated my cervix, but also progesterone just makes your cervix vascular so is prone to bleeding…

It does seem very coincidental that it’s on the time as your period, but also the hormones should hold it off so it also likely to be something else!

Hope you get some v answers at the clinic today. I’d definitely be asking for a a blood test and a retest in a could of days

Good luck!

Xxx

What a rollercoaster of journey this is. It’s so reassuring hearing everyone stories so thank you 🥰.

I went to the clinic this morning to get my BETA done and I’m booked back in for Wednesday. I just hope it will have doubled. As for my bleeding it hasn’t stopped completely just mostly brown spotting now. Xx

hi ginbaby. I’m sorry this is happening it’s so stressful! Just wanted to share my experience, I started spotting not long after my first ever bfp (5 transfers) I spotted for a few days then had a huge bleed, of course we thought the worst and went to a&e. We couldn’t believe when they said the pregnancy was viable and I had a hematoma that was causing the bleed. I had on and off bleeding that stopped at 16 week and I’m now 26 week. It’s a horrible and stressful time but it doesn’t Always mean the worst! 🙏🏼also, I too was on blood thinners. I pray you get your good news. Sending lots of love ❤️

It’s really is … I wasn’t prepared for this. So glad that there are groups like this to help people.

I’m sorry you had to go through this but glad you’ve come out the other end. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy 💕.

I’ve been told to stop the blood thinners and aspirin until have have 3 days without any bleeding.

Thank you, it means a lot 🥰 xx

Hi Ginbaby, definitely don’t stop the medications, I also had bleeding at 4 weeks even before my test date, and at 6 weeks a massive bleed with clots. But when I went in for a scan everything was fine, I was bleeding almost every day to 11 weeks in the end, but they just said it’s implantation bleeding. I actually found I had less bleeding when I used the pessaries vaginally but don’t know why. Either way I would still have at least some brown bleeding every day. Good luck xx

hey I’ve had a this a few times a couple of times not a good outcome but one time it was my little boy and I bled horrendously in and off up to 10 weeks. I had a subchorionic hematoma. If you are on blood thinners they may ask you to stop those and they can do repeat HCG bloods to see what’s happening if it’s increasing as expected etc. for my little boy it was and at over 5 weeks it was high enough for a scan to see what was happening. There isn’t much you can do but wait and see and I’m afraid and phone the clinic this morning for advice. Thinking of you I know this is really scary but it doesn’t always mean the worst, especially if there’s no heavy cramping xx

I’m sorry you’ve had to go through all that. I can’t imagine how hard it’s been for you.

I wasn’t prepared for this. You just think you test positive and that’s it but it’s far from it. What a rollercoaster it’s going to be.

Fingers crossed my bleeding stops and I get some good beta results. Xx

I had a huge red bleed and was convinced I'd misscarried. I had a scan on the Monday ( I was at a restaurant on the Saturday when it happened) and everything was fine. They could see where the bleed was coming from on the scan. I still don't know what it was and it stayed on my scan for a while and they just said they would keep an eye on it as it looked like a hematoma. They took me off blood thinners. I now have a 4 week old in front of me.

I’m so glad you had a positive outcome. It’s so reassuring hearing everyone stories.

The Doctor has taken me off the blood thinners and aspirin and said I have to wait for 3 days without any bleeding before I can start them again. Xx

hello, I had to respond to this post. I bled 3 days after my BFP, mainly brown to start with which stopped after a day. Then a couple of days later, I woke in the night to red blood, significant when I wiped and I passed a brown clot the size of a 20p piece. I was also taking the usual IVF drugs (progesterone and estrogen) with steroids and clexane. I was terrified and went for a HCG test 48 hrs apart. First test showed really great numbers but the second test showed that they’d barely increased 48 hrs later. Cue massive meltdown. The clinic advised me to stop the clexane and as I was on holiday at the time had to contact the local GP to get a referral to the local EPU. I was convinced that it would be bad news but already there were two visible fetal poles, 1 with cardiac activity, 1 without. They said it was unclear if the one without would make it. No reason for the bleeds seen. At the next scan (7 weeks with the clinic), both were visible with cardiac activity. However, the day after this internal scan, I bled and went into complete meltdown. I had been advised to resume the clexane again the day before and so had used it that night but again stopped after this latest bleed. As there was no clear reason to take the clexane, it was all belt and braces, I did not take it again. I am now 14 weeks and (touch wood) no more bleeding and all has looked great on the scans since. I think clexane causes the bleeding to be worse and so if you don’t need it, as in, you don’t have any specific blood clotting issues, I’d ask your clinic if you can stop. Clearly if you do need it, agonising though it is, it may well just be ‘one of those things’ you will need to manage. Honestly, if someone had said that to me I’d want to punch them, so please know it’s meant in the kindest possible way. Wishing you the very best x

I’m so glad to be hearing everyone positive stories and it seems like you’ve been through a lot. Fingers crossed that’s it for you now and I wish you all the best in the rest of your pregnancy.

I’m off the blood thinners now so I just hope the bleeding/spotting stops.

Thank you means alot 🥰. Xx

hi lovely, sorry you’re experiencing this! I experienced spotting at 4 weeks and then spotting and bleeding including some heavy from 5-8 weeks - I was told bleeding is very common with ivf pregnancies and I did find out at 6 weeks I had a hematoma which was causing the heavier bleeding. I’m 20 weeks now and all fine, so the fact your tests are getting darker is a good sign! Good luck!

Hi Ginbaby I think I’m experiencing the same as you. Had very light pink spotting on 6dp5dt then nothing on day 7 then more pinkish discharge on day 8 which became watery red coloured. So I tested to see if I was out and got a BFP! 🙏 which was quite a decent line. No more bleeding on day 9 (today) but the test line is lighter today so I am fearing the worst 😢

My clinic don’t do bloods and told me to test on my OTD (13dp5dt) and ring with the result. So I feel in limbo and just waiting anxiously. How are you getting on? Xx

Ginbaby profile image
Ginbaby in reply toKitkat10

I really feel for you right now as it’s not nice to go through. My fingers are crossed for you

Can your clinic not do bloods if you pay for them? Mine don’t do it as standard but I was happy to pay for them. I got my bloods done on Monday which come back at 192 and I’ve got them again tomorrow to make sure they’re doubling 🤞🏼. Xx

Thank you 😊

I think I’ll be testing negative by OTD, the way I feel things are going 😢 did the clinic give you any explanation for the bleeding? Your beta is a good number 🤞🤞 hoping everything goes smoothly for you from now on 🍀🍀x

Don’t give up hope just yet.

No they didn’t really give me an explanation. They just told me to stop taking my blood thinners and aspirin

Thank you and I bloody hope so 🤞🏼 xx

Hello just jumping in this thread! I’m on my 4th transfer and had my BFP on Sunday (3days ago) I have had a MC so no how that feels but I had some light bleeding pink on wiping and irritated front part after my morning pessary then nothing. I’m so worried called the clinic and she wasn’t worried. I’m worried as I haven’t had this before - my MC symptoms were different. Should I be worried? I did my pessary from the back door for the first time which 2.5hours later gave me the worst stomach pain (had to use loo TMI) just read to do it there and see if there anymore bleeding and there’s not, I don’t have a viability scan until 2 weeks - I’m going mad!! Sticky baby dust to you all Xxx

Ginbaby profile image
Ginbaby in reply toRkaur111

I’m sorry you’re going through that. It must be scary with what you’ve been through before but I wouldn’t worry if your clinic don’t seem bothered and your symptoms are different. I find that I better absorb the pessaries vaginally but they are just so messy but it will all be worth it in the end. Maybe just do them rectally for a bit then swap back just so it’s had a little break.

A little update from me. I paid for a private scan just after 6 weeks just so I could rest a little and stop testing and I couldn’t believe that I saw a tiny little bean with a heartbeat 💕. I’ve got my viability scan with the clinic on Tuesday.

Honestly don’t count yourself out. Sending you lots of baby dust. Xx

ahhh so glad you got to hear the baby’s heart beat 💕 I hope everything is okay in our journeys. It’s just been so difficult- I never had this when I MC on my 1st transfer that just happened- so I’m hoping this is just some bleeding which will stop maybe from pessaries. I’m 5 weeks today how far are you xx
