Does anyone get bad ovulation pain? This afternoon I got my peak on an ovulation test and ever since then it's just been really sharp pains in my womb area, almost like I feel like there's something stabbing me in there (as in it's uncomfortable). I do have polycystic ovaries so wondered if that was a factor. I have been checked fairly recently for cysts but there was nothing there (though I guess something could have come up after). I did have a small patch of endo removed in April but had none elsewhere.
It's bizarre as some months it's worse than others. Any one else have the same pains? Luckily it's not excruciating but it is quite sharp!! Just wondering if this is normal or not...

Hi esb27 - I do get ovulation pain, but I have a small Endometrioma and endo. It’s a really sharp stabbing pain too, bearable but I really feel it like clockwork every month. Ovulation pain can be normal for those without endo though wishing you all the best x
Ahh okay! I've bene doing IVF as well so guessing they would have spotted it at some point if I had the same thing, that's good to know x
Hi, I get ovulation pain like a sharp stabbing pain on either side. It’s funny because before I started TTC I can’t say I ever noticed it but once I started tracking my ovulation it was very apparent. I don’t use ovulation tests anymore as I know straight away by the pain down to which side I am ovulating. It’a not unbearably painful, just very aware it’s there.
It's weird isn't it! Luckily you don't need to do the tests anymore. Mine weirdly feels like it's in the middle rather than on one side, though i'm not 100%
I have PCOS , but ovulate every month as far as I’m aware. I usually get a stabbing / pinching pain. I had a really strong peak this month on my ovulation test , stronger than most months and the stabbing / pinching was quite bad. Usually my ovulation is a dull ache with the sporadic sharp pain and mainly pinching. But this month it was really painful, but I always get the pinching pain on every month x
Interesting! Sounds very similar to me, though I’ve never been diagnosed with PCOS just Polycystic ovaries. Have you been told the stabbing pain is normal? I know you can can have some pain but sometimes when it’s super sharp I do wonder… x
Yeh, my PCOS diagnosis is not formal either , literally had 6 scans(3 scans with normal ovaries , 3 with cysts) and been told I’ve got mild polycystic ovaries but normal blood tests. Apparently I’ve got big ovaries too
But apparently, because my periods are longer/irregular and I’ve got polycystic ovaries on ultrasound then they confirm that that is PCOS even though I have completely normal bloods, no extra hair etc. I’m in the UK and my consultant told me apparantly it’s all changed and they say you have PCOS even with normal bloods , you just need 2 out of 3 symptoms , which are cysts , irregular periods and extra hair
I haven’t really told anyone about the pain to be honest as I’ve always had ovulation pain, I would imagine if it’s something new for you or if it’s quite bad then maybe get it checked. My pain isn’t the same every month but as mentioned the pinching pain always happens x
This is a really interesting thread to read! I've had ovulation pain - not every cycle though. It's a sharp stabbing pain that stops me in my tracks, can feel almost like they're moving up and down each time I take a step and happened during sex a couple of times too. It never lasted more than a few hours I'd say and didn't happen every time I ovulated. I don't think I've an official diagnosis of pcos they said I 'probably' have it - I was told my testosterone was slightly high, I have a little extra facial hair, totally irregular cycles but not overweight. Never found any cysts so far but I do have a hell of a lot of follicles in any scans they've done and totally overstimulated by any type of fertility intervention I've had so far. From a little reading I've done I think there's different types of PCOS but no one seems to know much about it all yet.
Also - it was the GP who told me it was ovulation pain I was feeling but they weren't too fussed about it. Mind you they also flippantly commented that I'd probably find it difficult to get pregnant and gave me a leaflet and sent me on my way - here I am 6 years later doing IVF.... maybe tell your GP 😅
Interesting! I've had it happen during sex once before too. When you say irregular cycles do you mean you have super long ones? As mine are never the same amount of days but I only really range from 28-35 days. I know a few people with PCOS and their cycles go upwards of 50 days sometimes eek.
Yeah it's very much unknown into the types, so interesting though as I do find it hard to lose weight so wonder if that is connected to potential PCOS (I'm not overweight but have put on fair amount since doing fertility treatment)
Urgh not even bothering with the GP, they fucked up my tommy's referral so need a break from them (I got it in the end but it was such stress haha)
