Ovulation pain before FET?

Hi everyone,

I am having my embryos transferred next Wednesday and the last 2 -3 days I have been having sharp pains (almost like gas pain) in my lower abdomen and bottom for about 1-3 hours a day.

I asked my Dr is this was OHSS due to the trigger but he mentioned that it is likely due to ovulation pain. My belly is bloated/looks swollen but I assume this is normal due to all the medication.

Has anyone had this before/understand ovulation pain and how did you manage it?

Thank you & good luck everyone.

A side effect of the progesterone can be abdominal pain but if you are worried about it I would press your doctor about this as if it is OHSS that needs to be managed. Hope your transfer goes well on Weds 🤞 xx

I'm only starting progesterone tomorrow so it can't be that. Will reach out again to the Dr. if nothing improves. Thank you & all the best to you too.

Hi, How many eggs were collected? That normally gives you an indication of OHSS, which gives you massive bloating and dull pains in your ovaries all the time, not for a few hours in my experience.

The other thing I've had, is after egg collection I had internal bleeding, it was so bad I couldn't go to the toilet, so I got really constipated. This all seemed to get better and then cut to a few days before my period and I was getting sharp pains and spasms in my back passage and in my stomach. It was so bad I went to a&e, as my clinic was abroad and couldn't do anything. They did a blood test to check for infection and then an examination They said it was severe constipation and told me what to get from the pharmacy. This was massively embarrassing and I wasn't entirely sure that was the problem. I'd had to get my brother to look after my dog when I went to a&e, so he knew and said "so basically you went to a&e because you needed a poo". Still mortified! It slowly got better, but took ages.

I went to see a specialist after that and they just said not to worry about it, everything looked OK.

Are you on a course of anti biotics? That should rule out infection.

If you're worried about OHSS eat lots of protein with every meal and drink water with electrolytes in. I'm on my 4th cycle and bracing myself for OHSS again. I'm eating skyr yoghurt with granola and fruit in the morning, chicken with vegetables for lunch, almonds for snacking and more protein for dinner.

I hope you get to the bottom of this. It's so worrying when you don't get answers and you are in pain.

Good luck.

X

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I am on low stims to stimulate a cycle before they implant back the embryos early next week.

My Dr advised that I have about 2-3 follicles only so it cant be OHSS, it is likely ovulation pains. The pains stopped after an hour and then came back for a short while then stopped again. When I did have them it was very sharp. Hope they don't come back.

When reading your story, I honestly can imagine the stress of this all, rushing to A & E is so so stressful, not to mention the worry of what could be wrong...

When I had my egg collection, my stomach cramps were quite bad and when I asked the forum here, they told me its gas 🙈🙈🙈... how embarrassing (didn't know then that it could be gas)... anyhow for a long time I though it was egg collection itself that caused this gas build-up.

I did some research and found that under sedation for egg collection, they had used Fentanyl. I later found that, a very very common side effect of Fentanyl is constipation. I mean ... why didn't anyone tell me before the procedure? Now immediately after coming back from egg collection, once home I drink half a glass of prune juice or alternatively eat prunes and you know what, the pain is so reduced and manageable, very slight discomfort. What a HUGE difference!! You can also add Buscopan (if okay with your Dr.) for additional relief.

Of course this doesn't apply if you have internal bleeding/infection but it does help tremendously with the constipation and pain. Please try this next time, it really works and makes it so much more manageable.

To answer your question, not likely an infection so not on any antibiotics. I am following a similar diet to yours as carbs esp. breads/pasta does it make it worse so trying to eat as much protein as possible.

Praying all goes well this coming Wednesday and good luck to you on this journey.. Thank you for coming back to me.. Xx
