Day 3 9 cell embryo grade 2

I’m 44 years old , almost 5 years trying to conceive and 2 1/2 year ivf journey. we are doing mild/natural ivf multi cycle package . So far we have had numerous cycles cancelled due to either poor response , ovulating early (just before egg collection) or the occasional cyst. Two cycles where 3 eggs were collected but did not fertilise. On a more positive note we have 1 frozen Day 3 8 cell grade one embryo which we are so lucky to have. After a couple of months break we embarked on another round. One lead follicle taking off, 1 egg collected and fertilised. Got the phone call yesterday to say it’s a 9 cell grade 2 embryo and given it’s started to compact it’s risky to freeze therefore they want to leave it to day 5. I wondered if anyone has had this (my understanding is compaction is taking it from cleavage to morula ? ) and what the likely hood of this embryo going to blast? I’m trying to remain positive however doubts are creeping in. This journey is so tough at times isn’t it ! Any advice is greatly appreciated 💕

Hello, I just wanted to respond and wish you 🤞 🙏 🤞 I'm 44 also and started all this 5 years ago too. I got lucky thankfully and am trying for a sibling now.

With regards to your question, I'm afraid it's impossible to say. All you can do is wait till day 5 and hopefully transfer then. The waiting and not being able to control this is the hardest thing I've found.

Your embryo sounds like it is doing exactly what it should do. X

thank you so much for your reply. I’m normally a strong positive person , think I’m just having a down day today. You’re right , I’m not in control and can’t predict the outcome. My husband is the opposite, he’s all excited and trusts the science , I personally think it’s down to luck but looks more promising than we’ve ever had before so here’s hoping for a nice call tomorrow morning ☺️ It’s such a rollercoaster 🎢 isn’t it ?

I hope all goes will with you 🤞🥰

Hi amcd. Your embryologist will keep a careful eye on this little embryo and get it back inside you where it belongs. Good luck. Diane

thank you , it’s not doing so well , didn’t make it to blast today and quite a bit of fragmentation , they’re leaving it until tomorrow but we don’t have much hope. You never know though 🤞 🥰

But why they want to leave till day 5 why they dint transfer on day 3 ?? Any specific reason they have told you. As in uterus embryos will get natural environment. Why they leave in lab till day 5

The embryologist said on day 3 the embryo had started to compact therefore had committed to the next stage so it’s not a good time to freeze in between stages. We are doing mild/natural ivf 6 cycle package so they look to get 1 to 2 eggs per cycle then freeze them on day 3 and the hope is to have a few good embryos to transfer . Because of my age and im a poor responder it’s been challenging however we do have a frozen grade 1 8 cell day 3 embryo and after this cycle have 2 cycles left . I think we are going to go ahead and transfer the one embryo we have. Would have loved another one to give us more of a chance but grateful for what we have ☺️
