Short protocol - IVF

Hi All, hope everyone is ok..

I’ve just had my consultation to start my Second IVF cycle.

I was looking to have further testings after having 3 failed embryo transfers of ‘good’ grades (not PGTa tested) from my previous cycle. However, my consultant advised to go with the endo scratch only. She did say any further test if needed, would be to check my endometrium receptivity (ERA)

She also suggested I will be on the ‘short protocol” this round instead of the long protocol, as my system was too suppressed on my first IVF cycle and as a result, was “slow” in producing mature eggs.

I’ve had 2 FET on short protocols but all ended as BFN. I do prefer the short protocol as less injecting to do and also in terms of timescale a lot shorter.

Anyone been on short protocol for IVF? How was it? Any successful outcome’s? Any difference in how you produced eggs? Xx

Hi JB, I'm sorry you've not had much luck so far :( don't give up! I did the short protocol twice, my AMH and egg reserve is low for my age so they said that less drugs help with the egg quality. My first round only 2/4 eggs fertilized and no blastocysts, but my second round 5/6 fertilized and 4 made blastocyst. One of those is currently growing in my tummy and the others are frozen. Still can't believe our luck and how much the cycles differed. Hope it works out for you!

Hi JB I’m sure others will pop along on here who have been successful. Just make their reasons why before going ahead. It can work. Good luck. Diane

Hi, yes I preferred the short protocol. I had fewer eggs but seemed better quality as one became my now nearly 2 year old son.

The long protocol caused one of my ovaries to ‘sleep’ and contribute nothing to the process but it seemed to wake up again and joined in for the short protocol. I was 40 at the time though and it may be to do with age too. I went to 2 clinics and they each did a different protocol so it seems to be consultant preference?

like you, I preferred the shorter injection schedule and I also felt like it mimicked my natural cycle but just boosted things along.

Good luck x
