Cancelling after 20 days of stims NHS

Our clinic is advising we cancel.... due to poor response... meaning we could restart on a higher dose of stims but at a cost for the medications... IM LOST

1 follicle at 20, 1 at 13, 5 at 11... and 5 at 10 (40+ under 10)

Wat do I do? HELP

I think I responded the other day regarding you being on Day 18 of stims

I know the medication is a cost but going through egg collection to get nothing viable is a devastating experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Your clinic are advising cancelling because follicles should ideally be around the 18mm mark. You may get the 20mm egg but all of the others you described are very likely not containing a mature egg.

I would listen to your clinic and try again another month, hopefully they have learnt other things that they may be able to try

Good luck x

You might be able to ask for the trigger shot and then have natural intercourse at the right time - I was told this was a viable option if collection wasn't advised? Maybe something to ask about? xx

It’s deffo something I will mention on Wednesday when im next there! We are going to consider cancelling then but is there any Hope with slow responders? Not sure which direction to go as this is our only NHS cycle. If we cancel we wouldn’t stay at this clinic we have found a private clinic we would proceed with. So want to make the most out of this first cycle (if that makes sense) x

Given you are on day 20 it’s not looking great for the other ones - as someone else said, I wouldn’t go through with egg collection for possibly one egg maybe none (follicles aren’t guaranteed eggs). I would definitely start again, you’ve clearly got the eggs trying to grow you just need shake up your meds a bit to wake them up. Best of luck x

did they start you on a low dose because you have PCOS and they were worried about OHSS or did you just not respond to standard dosage? From your immature follicule count I gather that it might be due to PCOS and in that case it might be helpful to do it again with doctors specialized in dosage adjustments to get the max eggs for PCOS patients which is very different than other infertility issues when it comes to egg retrieval. Best of luck!

It was due to PCOS, they started me on 100iu of Gonal F and didn’t increase for 7 days and then have slowly increased to 225iu at day 17

Exactly the same happened to me. I also have PCOS and started at 100IU and there was no meaningful follicle development so I forced the doctor to increase to 150 and 225 within days and ended up retrieving 34 eggs, 31 of which were mature. My second retrieval was 225IU only for 9 days and retrieved 31, 30 of which were mature. I did develop moderate OHSS but regardless was a much smoother process. I also think longer stimulation impacts egg quality. I got 15 day 5 embryos from the first retrieval and 26 from the second.

Filling me with Hope doll! We have our appt tomorrow so will go ahead with cancelling, my husband is really anxious (aka he’s getting grumpy… I’m being patient with him and try to keep calm, that’s why I’m throwing questions on here rather than over stimulating (LOL) with questions

We recently went through this with a private clinic. If it’s not working on this round, and the clinic is advising to cancel, that is probably the wisest course of action. I did the trigger shot and timed intercourse afterwards, which didn’t work but felt constructive at least, and better than going through egg collection for 1 egg which might not have have fertilised. We had to pay £400 fee to cancel (meds already paid for).

Does it count as your NHS round if you don’t go to egg collection? It might not? I found NHS clinics provide the same standard of clinical care, if not better, than private. But harder to get through on the phone, admin poor, etc.

Not what you're looking for?
