coffee during Stimulation

My doctor says small cup of coffee is okay. But internet is full of contradiction!

Still I am asking, why, as my morning is quite busy full of office meetings where I have to lead- I struggle without coffee to focus or rather I say completely awake.

Even after shower and a hot cup of lemon water doesn't help.

Last week I have trying to avoid decaf coffee but struggled and had small cup of coffee.

Is there anyone has got any advise. I am starting stimulation today, hence it's bit more important, I guess to not to drink coffee!

TIA

Hi Katya. You could try decaffeinated coffee, they’re not all bad. Good luck. Diane

I was drinking small amount of decaf- and then panicked as was not sure. Thank you for sharing. I can have a tiny cup before work without getting worked-up.

Hi. As far as I have seen the research done on this, anything above 200mg/day can be harmful. 1 regular cup of coffee has about 60mg. I continued to take 1 cup through my stims. Good luck!

I have been trying to wean myself off of my daily cup of coffee - I’m mixing together instant decaf coffee granules with a bit of caffeinated coffee granules and gradually reducing the amount of caffeinated granules over time. This may help! X

I cut down to one cup a day and then decaf if I had anymore. I did this through pregnancy too. Best of luck with your stims!

For fertility I would avoid caffeine but I had decaf all the way through my journey to birth. It’s not the same I agree but it does help!

Hi! 200 mg per day or two small cups of coffee are considered safe. I think caffeine becomes more of an issue after transfer. I personally switched to two cups of black tea per day after that, not least because despite being a coffee addict, I could no longer stand the taste of it. Good luck with your round!

If you click under other food and drink it gives guidance re caffeine.

Good luck on your journey x

My dr said it was fine too. I would say it depends on your health and personal tolerance though. A strong coffee would take you over 200mg but a weak cup of instant would be under. When I was pregnant the first time, and with my little boy I drank caffeine. With my other MCs I didn’t. During stims I didn’t really and it still didn’t work. I don’t think it would have worked if I had drank caffeine though because my health is a factor. I’ve stopped drinking caffeine now because it impacts my scleroderma, the problem is it helps my lupus and helps my brain be more clear. Basically if you want one coffee a day, go for it but maybe don’t go over that!

Katya22 not sure what you read, but there was a big Danish study recently that found no effect of caffeine. I read it in the clinc waiting room lol. Looks like others followed up including a survey of other studies. Hopefully these are the right links - you should be in the clear (generally)!

In case it is helpful, my RE discouraged caffeine for other reasons related to my age and the impact of IVF stims on cardiac muscle, higher risk of clots, etc. So caffine may not impact IVF outcomes, but IVF especially as we get older, is really tough on our bodies. So this may be a general consideration.

I read recently that Caffeine may disrupt blood circulation and bcuz for all ivf process and during pregnancy the blood circulating is an essential part of getting pregnant and staying and nourishing the fetus so I now understand why it might b important to limit the caffeine intake.

I used to drink 1-2 cup everyday but now due to uterus lining issue coming after the major surgery I had last year removing Adenomyosis and large fibroids Im I cut it to once every week and try not to have it at all sometimes even every two three weeks. Hopefully the blood circulation can do its work and my lining go back to normal as it was before.

I also do other things to encourage the blood flow including Accupunture castir oil pack and walking.

Good luck with your stim

Hey Katya22, follow your doctor’s advice. My doctor said the same thing- one coffee a day is okay as long as it’s under 200mg. I continued to have one coffee a day through both my cycles- one was unsuccessful but one was successful. Goodluck ☺️
