Exercise after laproscopy + hysteroscopy

Hi guys,

I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy 9 days ago to see if the docs could figure out why I was having recurrent miscarriages. Still waiting on my follow up to discuss the findings but I wanted to get peoples advice on exercise. Not walking as much as I’ve been doing that gradually more and more since the procedure. But I was wondering when I could do things like yoga, Pilates, running and general gym things. The nurses didn’t really say much when I left, though I was still a bit groggy from the anesthetic and there is not much on the post lap care sheet on anything past 48 hours.

I did google it and it said 6 weeks but others said people went back to exercise after 2. So am a bit confused. I don’t want to push myself back but at the same time I’m feeling really grim and just want to exercise for my mental as well as physical health!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Start by increasing length of walks Swimming is an ideal exercise - avoid contact sports for a few weeks It all depends on what your body was used to - how fit you are etc Start your activity slow and gradually build it up If uncomfortable or in discomfort slow it down - listen to your body

Take care

Hi Janet

Thanks for replying. I feel quite good so might give a few little things a go but start chilled.

I was wondering about swimming, would that not put me at risk of infection? I know it’s not an open wound but the dissolvable stitches are kinda still there so was wondering if that was a bit risky?

Thanks!

Should be ok but if unsure wait till sutures dissolve

I would listen to your body. I’ve had 2 of the same procedures over the last 3 years to remove cysts and internal scarring. The first time I was in a terrribel state and couldn’t walk for a good 4 or 5 days without help so exercise was off for me for probably 3-4 weeks at least but the second I was back in the gym after 8 days and walked around as normal the day after so just be kind to yourself and take each day as it comes, some might be worse than others but your right don’t let your mental health suffer do what’s good for you xx

Hi Chowlady14,

Thanks for the response and the advice! I do feel good in myself so maybe I could give some gentle exercises a go and see what happens, like you said I can just listen to my body xx
