No ovulation detected in a year and a 1/2.

Hi Ladies and possibly Gents, this is my first post and I’m very new to this platform… I was diagnosed with PCOS around 5 months ago via an internal ultrasound and high testosterone levels detect in my blood. I have been tracking my ovulation for just over a year and a half and not ever had a positive result… very disheartening 🙁

Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation that you could share with me? I’m happy for private messages if you don’t want to comment on the post. Thank you all xoxo

I have never had a positive home ovulation test, had a cycle tracked by the GP who said I do ovulate. GP told me to spend my money on date nights and have regular intercourse instead of pay for any more home ovulation tests. I have gotten pregnant twice but lost both unfortunately, I also have PCOS. Good luck 🍀

A friend of mine who has PCOS and ovulation issues takes medicine for it. Fertility clinic should be able to tell you if that would work for you. The medicine is supposed to induce ovulation and regulate progesterone.

I don’t think home ovulation tests work when you have PCOS - I did some private follicle tracking to confirm ovulation was happening - much more reliable than the test strips

Hi Rose,

There’s conflicting information out there around PCOS and ovulation strips. Sometimes, if you have PCOS, your body can still produce the hormones that give you a positive, but it doesn’t mean that you’ve ovulated. I’ve had positive strips, but they may just be detecting the hormones. Therefore, your negatives may not be accurate and ovulation could still be taking place. I posted something similar on the PCOS group and the advice I received was take my temperature and check my cervical mucus as these are other ways of detecting ovulation. In addition, there are more thorough ovulation kits that you can get that don’t just test for LH. As posted below, you can also have a blood test, which is on day 21 of your cycle to detect progesterone.

Have you spoken to your GP about the ovulation strips?

Thank you to everyone that replied! I wassnt exspecting to hear from more than one person! It’s a lovely community.

So I’m taking Provera from day 6-21 of my cycle, this hasn’t seemed to help yet, but I haven’t been on it long so I still have my fingers crossed for this method to work. Lots of things you guys have said have given me more hope that I should just keep doing what I’m doing, even with all of the negative results we still have intercourse around 4 times a week. I have been another person that has fallen victim to the BMI devil and have been told that I need to loose 3 stone before they will think about IVF… I’m 5.1 and 14 stone, I have a double G chest!!!! And this holds a good chunk of my weight!!!! I felt bad after but snapped at my gyno asking if I should just get a breast reduction then… 🤦🏼‍♀️

I have to show good progress by my appt in July and hopfully they will consider me for some kind of medication that will force my ovulation…

Thank you for your support and reply ladies xx

Hi Rose. Some great advice from the other ladies who have commented already. I have PCOS and ovulation tracking has always been a nightmare.

Have ended up using ovulation predictors like Mira and Ovusense and these have been the most accurate for me along with cervical mucous changes.

Good luck. X
