Confirmed BFN after hcg

The clinic have confirmed a negative hcg blood test today. I am devastated. I sort of knew it was coming but there was always a glimmer of hope until now.

This was our first round of IVF with DE. We had 5/9 eggs that defrosted, 2fertilised with DH sperm and 1 survived and was transferred.

I didn’t get to speak to my normal nurse today so the bad news was given by another nurse who was cold and had no compassion. I felt an inconvenience. I had to ask about what I do about meds and didn’t feel I could ask additional questions.

I am hoping someone will be able to help me from this wonderful group as I have so many questions but my main one is Am I likely to get a bleed (I don’t get periods normally) and if so how long should you wait for it and what should you do if you don’t get one? ( sorry that’s more than one question) I was on 2 x cyclogest pesseries and 2 x 2 progonova and stopped them all last night.

I have a follow up appointment on Wednesday where I am hoping they will say we can go again but I’m not convinced they will because of my age.

Thank you to everyone for your support through this past 4 months, it is a roller coaster and your inspirational stories and friendships make the ride a little smoother.

Good vibes and best wishes to everyone

💕

Hi, I didn’t want to read and run but wanted to say how sorry I am to hear you had a failed transfer. It is so tough and it never got easier for me - that glimmer always stays until you take a test. Im also so sorry the nurse was so cold - I’ve had my fair share of cold conversations with nurses / clinics and it does baffle me how there’s sometimes zero compassion given where they are working.

For your questions, my bleeds post failed transfer were always heavy ans varied (heavy periods every 10 days for one and just an extremely painful and heavy period for my second), however if you don’t usually have periods I’m not sure - the amount of meds you were on May mean you will have some sort of withdrawal - did you have any other transfers prior to this DE transfer?

Take the time to grieve and enjoy a good glass of wine and a takeaway. and hope the appointment on Wednesday brings you some positive news too x

Thank you, no transfer prior to DE, we had to go straight in with DE due to no eggs of my own.

I’m so sorry, it’s just heartbreaking.

In reply to your question, you should have a withdrawal bleed from the meds. I also don’t usually have periods (I do sometimes but they’re few and far between) and I’ve always had one within about 4 days of stopping meds - usually pretty heavy but not always. It is hard to move on after a failed cycle. Take some time to be kind to yourself and I hope you get the news you want about continuing on Wednesday xx

Sorry about the bad results. I'm not sure why they wouldn't let you try again, since you are using DE. Only 1 embie for transfer seems to be a dismal result. Perhaps the donor didn't have good quality eggs or something is off with the sperm? Some clinics overseas guarantee multiple embryos to transfer. Maybe an option?

So sorry it wasn’t successful this time - no experience to offer RE DE or bleeds but just wanted to send my love and best wishes Xx

Really sorry to hear that Winniebear1. Hopefully you’ll be able to ask what you need at your review. Look after yourself and give yourself time to process it all. Sending a hug 🌸✨x
