Hi Asha, I had an ectopic a year ago. For me personally I started having some brown bleeding on and off between 5-6 weeks. The doctor said this can be normal and not to worry. I then started getting some bad period type pains by 6.5 weeks, went for a scan and they couldn’t find any sac so said it’s a suspected ectopic, and were going to measure my hcg movements but I never got to the second measurement because on 7 weeks exactly the pain got so agonising I went into A&E & told them I think I’m having an ectopic, they got me straight in surgery to confirm and remove the tube. There was a surgical option to try to keep and repair the tube especially if the other tube wasn’t ok, but if you go that way there is a much higher risk of just having an ectopic again next time so I opted for removal. I hope this helps a little just to let you know my experience, and you’re not alone. Fingers crossed everything will be ok, sending hugs xx

Thank you so much Debsex11, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, thank you for sharing your experience, I will be 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow, I started bleeding at 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant it was dark brown at first and then went dark red with lots of clots and mild to moderate period pain, it was heavy for 3 days and very light for 2 days, my hcg levels have been still rising during and after the bleeding. Did you have lots of pregnancy symptoms? Sending hugs back, I'm going for another blood test this Friday and a scan xx

Debsdex11 in reply toAsha82

yes I had symptoms like sore breasts, but the symptoms reduced as time went on, so that was also a sign that something was wrong, but I think those kind of things vary a lot for every pregnancy anyway so it’s hard to tell from that. Good luck on Friday, fingers crossed xx

Hi Asha,

So sorry you're having to go through this. I have had two ectopic pregnancies. The first one my only symptom was some spotting which then turned into some full on bleeding but my HCG levels continued to rise slowly (I can't remember the numbers as it was 11 years ago.) They never located the pregnancy so officially it was a pregnancy of unknown location and I was treated with methotrexate. The whole time I just kept spotting until the second dose of methotrexate finally brought my levels down.

My second ectopic was last year. This time no symptoms at all, no bleeding or anything but because of my history my GP automatically sent me to the EPU. Initially they couldn't find anything and because my numbers were rising by an acceptable amount they thought all was well. Then the numbers suddenly dropped and I was told to expect a miscarriage, then they suddenly rose again and I was brought in to be scanned by the consultant who found the pregnancy in my left ovary at 6 weeks. The whole time I had no symptoms apart from one dizzy spell. Because I had such a hard time with the methotrexate and because they could see exactly where it was I actually asked them to operate rather than try the methotrexate.

It was only after I was admitted to hospital the next day around 6.5 weeks that I started to experience any pain or discomfort in my ovary.

I would insist on a scan as soon as you get to 6 weeks and I would also contact your GP to let them know what's happening so that you can get referred to your EPU. It may not be ectopic but it's really important that you locate the pregnancy asap.

So much love to you.

Thank you Hazelwood12, I'm so sorry you had to go threw 2 ectopic pregnancies, I've already bleed from 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant for 5 days heavy with clots, I feel pregnant but I'm just not sure what to think because of my slow rising and low hcg levels, I had 2 embryo's transferred from icsi, I have another blood test this Friday and a scan, I will be 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow, sending much love back to you, thank you for sharing your experience xx

Hi Asha82. Crossing everything for you that it turns out ok. I had an ectopic in December of last year. Conceived naturally and didn’t even realise I had fallen pregnant as I started bleeding around the date my period was due so thought it was my period. The bleeding lessened but didn’t stop completely so after 3 weeks I contacted my GP who asked me to take a pregnancy test. This was positive so my GP and I assumed that this was another chemical miscarriage. A few days later I experienced excruciating pain in my left side and phoned the go again. They sent me to have my hcg levels checked which were over 5000. I had to go for another hcg check 2 days later where they discovered my levels were rising. I was sent for a scan later that week (meanwhile having another couple of episodes of excruciating pain which lasted an hour or so). At the scan they couldn’t locate the sac in my uterus but noted a mass in my left fallopian tube. I was 7 weeks exactly and the tube had ruptured and I had started to bleed internally. I was rushed in for emergency surgery to have to tube removed via keyhole surgery. My advice is to seek immediate help if you have any sharp pain, dizziness or pain in your shoulder or arms. Only a scan will provide you with an answer so keep pushing for one. Sending you love and strength. You will be ok I promise xxx

I'm so sorry to hear that but it can be normal even if it's heavy with clots, I started bleeding at 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant and it was heavy for 3 days and light for the last 2 days with lots of clots and my pregnancy symptoms are getting stronger but there not there every day, they come and go, I know it's hard but it might still be normal, I hope that everything will be ok for you and I hope it's just normal bleeding xx

I had the bleed last night before bed but when I woke up in the night for the toilet it had turned to brown and almost gone. I have some cramping but nothing major. I still have pregnancy symptoms and I’d go as far as saying some of them are getting stronger but it’s a worry. Fingers crossed for us both at tomorrows scan. Xx

That's good to hear that your bleeding has stopped, my pregnancy symptoms were getting stronger but I can't really feel them today apart from frequent urination and fatigue, my boobs are a little bit sore but not much, I'm really scared they will tell me they can't see the pregnancy or it will be ectopic, I'm getting very nervous because I don't think I will cope with the heartbreak if I can't keep the pregnancy, fingers crossed for the both of us xx

Hi! I have some great news, they saw the sac and the baby on my scan, it's measuring 1.7mm which is good for 6 weeks, they can't see a heartbeat because it's to small but my hcg levels are still low they went from 272 on Monday to 450 today but I had low hcg levels when I was pregnant with my son 20 years ago, I go back on Monday and Thursday next week for more blood tests to check my hcg levels and another scan next Friday to see the heartbeat and the progress of the baby, I really hope you get great news like we did xx

Anglo-Italia in reply toAsha82

Hi,

I’m so very pleased for you! That’s fantastic! That’s great that they saw it with the hcg levels. Gotta keep the faith

Just got back from the hospital. Well we have mixed news. We saw the baby and the heartbeat which is amazing however we are measuring 4.1mm and apparently needs to be more like 7mm at 7 weeks. We are booked for another scan in 2 weeks. Staying positive! Xx

Asha82 profile image
Asha82 in reply toAnglo-Italia

That's great to hear, I'm sure everything is ok, sometimes they are a bit behind but they catch up, I've read stories like that and the baby was born healthy, I'm feeling very positive and very happy, ours is measuring 1.7mm which is really good for 6 weeks pregnant but it's to small to see the heartbeat so going back next Friday for another scan and blood test for hcg levels on Monday and Thursday next week, I'm so glad that you gave me good news xx

Hi! I'm getting really worried my hcg levels are rising even slower now, they went from 451 on Friday to 570 today, I'm really scared that they might not see the heartbeat on Friday xx

Anglo-Italia profile image
Anglo-Italia in reply toAsha82

It is terrifying but we are not “normal” when it comes to pregnancy. We didn’t do it the normal way and we won’t experience it the normal way.

It’s so easy to see positive in another person’s journey and not to see it in our own. Stay strong. We need to. Friday is not that far away but it feels like forever. I’m scared about what we will see too.

Sending hugs and prayers xx

I had to go to A&E last night I passed a fleshy clot. They are going to do an emergency scan later today but the nurse who phoned me was talking like it’s all over. The Gynae doctor who saw me last night said the cervix is still closed and she was hopeful. Really panicking.

Hcg was 1168 last night so hoping to prove the nurse wrong and still see a heartbeat 😢😢😢

Hi! How are you feeling? I hope your ok, I just found out my hcg levels didn't go up by much at all, they were 570 on Monday and only 593 today it's looking like I'm going to lose this baby😢😢

Anglo-Italia profile image
Anglo-Italia in reply toAsha82

Oh honey that’s not good news. I hope that it’s not the case. It really helped (in the worst way) to comprehend it all when I saw the scan and there was nothing there so I would encourage you to still go as whatever direction it heads you’ll want to see it for yourself.

Well the one thing I hadn’t anticipated was that when you stop the meds you then have a bleed and further cramping. I’ve also ended up with a lot of spots round my mouth but I think my body just gave up. Emotionally I’m blocking and not dealing so it will hit again I’m sure of that.

I hope it’s ok for you and I’m sending some big hugs your way. Xx

Thank you so much I really appreciate it, it's so sad what happened to you, I'm really scared but I will go for the scan tomorrow, will you be trying again sometime? We are going to do a frozen cycle in 2 or 3 months because we have 4 frozen embryo's and 2 of them are really good quality, I will let you know tomorrow and I'm sending big hugs your way, I hope you have the best of luck in the future xx

Hi! I've had a nightmare happening, i was told it was a silent miscarriage so I was going to have a d&c to remove the baby last week but they did a ultrasound that showed the baby grew and had a weak heartbeat but today I had a scan and the baby hadn't grown and has no heartbeat so I'm going in tomorrow morning for surgery to remove the baby, I'm very depressed and struggling to cope, thank you for asking, how are you doing, I hope your ok and coping with your heartbreak xx

Oh bless you! What a awful journey. I really hope everything goes smoothly and you don’t get any further issues come up so you can start to heal.

Well we have been hiding from the pain.

We have also decided to go back for the Frosties after all. So in July we try again but it will be the last we can afford.

It’s actually saved us a little to try to plan what’s next. We also got a matching tattoo for our little heartbeat and that’s really helped with the healing to have something permanent to help remember.

I hope you can start to heal as it’s really not fair to have that up and down will I won’t I feeling.

My thoughts are with you. Xx

Thank you so much, that's really good that your doing a frozen cycle in July, we are doing a frozen cycle in 3-4 months so that keeps me going, that's really nice you both got matching tattoos of a heartbeat, I can't do that myself as I can't handle needles, I really hope you have a successful pregnancy when you do your cycle in July, because I'm having a d&C I have to wait 3 months because I can do a frozen cycle, my awesome fiancee is supporting me through this nightmare, what makes it hard is my daughter is 23 weeks pregnant which I'm very happy for her and excited to meet my new granddaughter in September but it's also hard being around pregnant women, thank you for your beautiful message❤️xx

Hi Asha whe I had my ectopic from a a natural pregnancy the only symptom other than some bleeding which started at week 7 I had was pain in my shoulder which at the time I thought was just from sleeping awkwardly. It wasn't till they found the pregnancy in my right tube at 9 weeks (I had a lot of back and forth scans with epu who couldn't find anything on scans but hgc kept rising) the consultant asked if I had shoulder pain and she explained shoulder tip pain is a sign of an ectopic pregnancy causing internal bleeding. I know how hard it is not knowing and having to wait. Make sure you have people around you for support and be kind to yourself, whatever the outcome it is not your fault there is nothing that you did to cause this. Sending hugs x

Thank you so much I really appreciate it, I'm sorry you had to experience that, I have lots of support but I'm really scared of losing this pregnancy, I have my scan and blood test tomorrow and I'm very nervous, the only reason they are worried about a ectopic pregnancy is because I have low and slow rising hcg levels, they tried to do a early scan at 5 weeks pregnant and couldn't see any pregnancy, I'm 6 weeks pregnant today, sending hugs back xx

Hi Asha. Hoping for the best for you. I had constant bleeding for 5 weeks as mine was ovarian. It’s possible to have a uterine and an ectopic given you mention you had 2 embryo transfers? You should continue to push for a diagnosis. It took 4 early scans for them to finally find mine, I was about 6 weeks along too, but become so poorly I had to be hospitalised

Can you have a scan at 6 weeks? I usually get an early scan for this at 7 weeks. Don't panic for no reason!! If it is ectopic it was a slow process after the injection so just be prepared for that. I found it emotionally harder than a miscarriage cos then had to wait 3 months to try again and felt like forever 💔

But please try and wait until you know for sure xxx

Asha82 profile image
Asha82 in reply toJenRow7

Thank you, I know it's not ectopic because I already had a scan at 6 weeks and they have seen the fetal pole measuring 1.7 mm which is really good for 6 weeks pregnant, I'm going back this Friday to see the heartbeat as it was to small last Friday but my hcg levels are extremely low that's the only scary part but I had low hcg levels when I was pregnant with my son 20 years ago xx
