D&C miscarriage- next steps?

Hi fellow ivf warriors,

I had a d&c on 29th March after we discovered no heat beat at 6 week scan.

Without speaking to my ivf consultant (which costs £175 a go) I'm just wondering what should be my next steps? I have one PGS tested embryo left (on ice) so hoping to do another transfer as soon as possible.

1. Do most ladies proceed with a frozen embryo transfer on their 2nd period after a D&C? I assume 1st period will be an abnormal bleed and your body is trying to reset?

2. Before any embryo transfer, should I be insisting on a hysteroscopy or a 3D SIS to ensure there is no pregnancy tissue left or infection?

I will be speaking to my consultant on the next steps but we are waiting for our karyotype testing results to come back so we can discuss everything in one meeting rather than paying for two!!!

Thanks

I’m very sorry for your loss. I had a missed miscarriage at about 8 weeks and had surgical management (d&c). I went ahead with a frozen embryo transfer on my next bleed after the surgery. I didn’t do a SIS as I was told that the risk of scarring was low as I had never had any other surgery in that area (C section, previous D&C). In terms of remaining pregnancy tissue, if your hcg levels drop to non pregnancy levels this should mean there is no tissue left. It took five weeks for mine to drop.

My following fet was successful, the only thing I changed was getting my progesterone levels checked on day of transfer and adding in extra lubion.

Good luck

Thank you. I'm 3 weeks after my d&c and no signs of a period arriving😔. Ideally I just want to get on with my next transfer once its arrives and not wait for my 2nd period.....which looks like it will be Late May or even June at this rate!

The waiting is frustrating, it took about 7 weeks for my next bleed to come. Have you checked to see if your hcg levels have reduced? I was still getting positive tests on easy at home tests for 5 weeks. It was then a further two weeks until I had a bleed. Have you spoken to your clinic about when they will let you go ahead with an FET?

Just ordered the HCG tests to come tomorrow. I have a feeling my clinic said I can do the transfer after my 2nd natural bleed but will ask again just in case its not policy.

Hi there. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

I had a missed miscarriage back in October 2022 and it took almost 2 months for me to have a proper bleed afterwards. I had to wait until the one after that to have my FET which was only a few weeks ago. Like you, I just wanted to get on with the next transfer so was disappointed about the wait. In hindsight I think for me, waiting a bit longer was better as it gave me time to get stronger mentally and physically (as I had also developed OHSS). I used the time to get active and go back to the gym and just started looking after myself better after the whole miscarriage.

Like km307 has said, if the HCG on your home pregnancy test shows negative then that should mean there’s no pregnancy tissue left. I didn’t ask for a SIS- wouldn’t have even thought of it tbh.

Best of luck with everything. Xx

I have a call with my consultant on Friday so hopefully he can tell me next steps and proposed timetable.

Thanks everyone
