I asked my clinic for a 3D SIS scan which they agreed to. But when they put my appointment details in writing, it said I had been booked in for a Saline Infusion Scan.
I have been on the phone to them and they say these are 2 different things.
I thought a 3D SIS scan would look at anatomical abnormalities as well as any scar tissue, polyps or fibroids and that saline solution is introduced to the uterus to provide greater detail.
They were saying they can do a 3D scan which is just an ultrasound scan but in 3D - no saline involved.
They think what I am wanting is a Saline Infusion scan but they say this is not in 3D.
Does that matter for it not being in 3D?
I am confused.
Many people on here have suggested a 3D SIS scan - what are your thoughts on this? Is the saline infusion scan sufficient?
Maybe it is just my clinic do not offer 3D SIS scan and these are the closest options to what they offer...?
Thanks, input really appreciated, I'm meant to be having this test tomorrow! Xx

I went back to see what was written on my invoice as it was done in 2021. The invoice says Dummy embryo transfer + 3D SIS.
On the day I had first to go in with a full bladder so that they could test putting the catheter in to ensure no issues during the actual transfer (I think they write the cathether used etc). I then was allowed to empty my bladder and they proceeded with the 3DSIS. They put saline solution into the womb and then obtain imaging. I am sure I was shown my womb in 3D then.
I can dm you the name of the clinic and the cost then if it helps x
I just read the extract of an article published in 2017 and basically 3D SIS is meant to be a little bit more accurate in detecting anomalies than 2D SIS . Will they be doing Hycosy at the same time ?
Thank you! That is incredibly useful, I just had a scan over the paper. I think I will just go with the 2D SIS and try not to worry too much about it as it said it is already very accurate and the 3D is just that tad more so. I already feel I have enough to worry about without adding to the list!
They will be doing a hycosy at the same time, yes. Is that a good thing?
Thank you for taking the time to look at your invoice and find the research paper, that's really thoughtful of you - I appreciate it 😊 xx
Hi Skittles, totally agree with your choice. It’s perfect that they will also be doing Hycosy at the same time. I was really annoyed that my clinic didn’t do Hycosy when they did the SIS given that they can be combined. The transfer that worked for me was immediately after a Hycosy (which was done a year later than SIS and after a cancelled transfer and two failed FETs with euploid embryos). Sending you lots of love and luck x
Hi skittles, I had a 3DSIS after treatment for scar tissue /ashermans after a loss as think you know. Sure a 2D would be ok to check for polyps and fibroids but I think that the 3DSIS is much better/more accurate for scar tissue. Don’t think you have indication for scar tissue /no fluid in uterus or thin lining but if you want to check for it I think it’s something like difference between 70 and 90% accuracy. So so hoping things come together for you on this treatment roundxxx
