Ovulation test with overactive bladder

Hey,

I am testing for ovulation in preparation for a natural FET cycle. I have a very overactive/painful bladder and am finding it difficult to retain my urine for more than 3 hours before testing. It's also affecting my sleep as each time I get up in the night to pee I am checking the time to make sure I'm not leaving too short a gap before testing. I'm quite anxious as I have missed my surge in the past. Using clearblue advanced digital and one step as a back up. Any advice?

Dear Hazelwood, I am sorry you are feeling so stressed in the lead up to your FET. It is not recommended to use the first morning urine to detect LH as it takes the brain a few hours after waking up to secrete the appropriate hormones which in turn would stimulate the pituitary gland to release LH and FSH. If you are worried you might miss ovulation, test twice a day, once in the morning (after 10AM) and once in the afternoon/evening.

You could also check with your clinic if they could measure your LH and E2 levels in the lead up to ovulation as this will be a much more accurate indicator of when your surge happens. Wishing you all the best for your upcoming FET! x

Update! Tested postive for ovulation last night on clearblue advanced digital (finally got my static smiley face after 4 days of testing). Funnily enough the one stop tests never showed ANYTHING positive for me. I had never used them before this cycle and they had me freaking out the whole time.

I had ovulation cramping in the morning which got worse in the afternoon. I tested at 5pm and still had a flashing smiley face. Then instinctively I thought to test 4 hours later (always easier for me in the evening to hold my wee). The urine was a completely different colour - cloudy rather than clear - and that's when I got my LH surge. All looked good with the scan this morning so good to go ahead with a transfer on Friday! So exciting/ scary!
