has anyone heard if there is a weight limit just for having a HSG? This is what I am being told. All I am wanting is a full picture so I can make some decisions around future treatment without it being at the detriment of my mental health. I was on the verge of an eating disorder and had a mental breakdown last time I was told I needed to lose weight in order to be accepted for treatment. This was back in 2014/15 when my BMI was 33-35 and I was told there was nothing wrong with my fertility and it was male factor with my ex. I have been with current partner for 6 years, never used contraception and he has been checked and no male factor. Ok I have put on a lot of weight and been told I probably have PCOS, but surely checking my tubes so I can weigh up the pros and cons and chances of success with IVF against protecting my mental health is not too much to ask?
Basically am I going to be miserable and potentially put myself at risk losing weight for nothing? Or do I carry on trying to live a healthy happy lifestyle and look at adoption?

hello oh my goodness weight has literally been the Bain of my life 🤦♀️ I lost 5 stone to get my bmi to 30 for ivf only to be told it had a detrimental effect on my hormones and ivf. It was a huge slap in the face. Apparently I had lost it too fast 🤷♀️. I’m not sure if it’s an option for you but we did a number of tests privately in Spain to see what was going on. They thought I had pcos … I didn’t. We checked my tubes, levels for different things and did Alice emma and era testing to get some answers xxx I hope your ok xxx
Thanks Boo. This was just another slap in the face after spending 13 hrs in A&E on Saturday with symptoms of Cauda Equina too! This week can do on, and its only Monday!
I’ve not heard of a weight limit for hsg but I definitely had to lose weight to get my bmi to 30 to be prescribed clomid and I completely agree it’s wrong and just humiliating!
It definitely changes area to area though annoyingly.
By the time we felt able to have Ivf I was too old anyways in my area for nhs funded Ivf but by clinic did accept people with a bmi of under 35 for private treatment. Private clinics tend to have different criteria to the nhs if that’s an option for you.
Just to warn you (please don’t shoot the messenger) but some adoption agencies also have a bmi limit ( depending on the agency, this can be bmi of 30- 40 though too).
Thanks KittyKat. I joined the webinar the fertility network put on at the beginning of the month and even they said BMI limit was now thought to be arbitrary. They felt metabolism and nutritional status was a better indicator of egg quality.
Hi ADHDPCOS. Oh dear all down to the dreaded BMI of 30. You may be able to get it done privately, but check it doesn’t clash with CCG guidelines. Good luck Diane
