Hi all, we are due to go through our 2nd round of ICSI after a miscarriage at 8 weeks. Previously I was on the short protocol but now they want to put me onto the long protocol. Anybody else had this during their treatment. The first time on the short i was fine. On cetritide and then 150iu menopur had no symptoms after or before my BFP and they collected 7 eggs, 5 fertilized and 1 put back on day 2 at a 3cc grade. This all worked fine but now are thinking of the long protocol this time round. Treatment is due to male factor and I'm wondering why a long protocol would benefit me. Clinic told me to possibly better my egg quality. Anyone else had a switch in protocols before????

Changing from short to long protocol???🤔
I’ve always been short protocol so no but I didn’t want to read and say nothing. I guess you have to trust in your clinic, that they are suggesting this for your best interests.. Good luck xx
So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I'm on a short protocol but your clinic are professionals and fingers crossed they will do their best for you to get you a BFP x
Hi 1980sbaby. Sometimes changing policies can improve on egg quality, so perhaps that's why they want to swap over. Speak to your specialist and ask him/her for the reason to change. Hope all goes well with whatever is decided, and of course for success. Diane
I switched from Short to long between round 1 and 2. I got 8 mature eggs from 9 follicles but we had no fertilisation after IVF. Also they said I had discordant growth - so lots of little and medium follicles had developed but not with eggs. So in addition to some other changes (using IcSi even though sperm parameters were fine) they put me on the long protocol even though I have PCO. Same 150iu dose of menopur each time. And in the second round got 15 eggs and responded much better. So perhaps it’s worth trying. Also Both times I felt fine before and after EC - I really didn’t notice a difference in how I felt in both rounds. For round 2 I was eating better, kept my electrolytes up to help prevent OHSS and mostly switched to natural products to improve egg quality in addition to supplements
Thanks abcgirl that has really helped me. I'm finding my thoughts are more positive towards it now. So it's 100% long protocol now so fingers crossed all goes as easy as last time and a BFP is waiting for me at the end.x wishing you all the luck with your journey. You post has helped more than you know xx
I’ve just had eggs collected after long protocol, was on short last time. I was told that the long one has a higher chance of better quality embryos, to aim to get some frosties. Good luck
Hi there, our first fresh cycle was a short protocol. We had a fresh transfer first (BFN) and then a FET (also BFN). We've decided to give things another go after months of pre-conception supplementation/support. Consultant also suggested long protocol. The first cycle was, really, a diagnostic tool for them - they never know how you are going to respond so it gave them a lot of useful information ahead of our second cycle. I had a much better response on the long protocol - currently waiting for my ET on Monday - and keeping my fingers crossed! I found long protocol OK, but, as the name suggests, it does feel like it takes ages to get from the initial stage of down-regulation to ET and beyond. Hopefully, it will be all worth it!
Hi 1980sbaby
I started out in the short protocol and only got 2 eggs grown they actually abandoned the cycle, then then changed me to long protocol and I came out with 17 eggs it’s because they shut your own hormones down and control everything is a longer process but definitely worth it. Good luck lovely xxx
Thank you emma-jane-30 this really helps me. You guys have played a big part in making me feel much better about the situation. I can't wait to start treatment again....didn't think I'd ever hear me say that. Thanks for your positive true stories.xx
