TW- miscarriage?

I am 5+6 and for the past few days I’ve been having brown discharge - I had a lot in my last pregnancy so wasn’t thinking the worst to begin with. (I had a big bleed also but didn’t miscarry although went on to have a late loss but I gave birth so never experienced miscarriage) I don’t have any real pregnancy symptoms and those I thought I had are gone (tender and full boobs feel deflated now and indigestion/burps have gone).

Last night I had quite a bit of dark discharge and a bit red so I put on a pad but only a small amount went on it. It is more when wiping so not a flow but more than a normal discharge. I was convinced I was beginning to miscarry as I had quite intense pain, it felt a bit like the pain before diarrhoea but for about an hour (I took paracetamol and went to sleep) I didn’t have this pain in previous pregnancy.

But this morning I woke to no pain and a small amount of lighter brown discharge. So I am quite confused as I expected things to progress today after the pain!

Can anyone who has experienced miscarriage tell me honestly if this sounds similar? I will be contacting clinic on Monday as not a lot can be done now over weekend. If it was just brown discharge I would have waited it out until 7 week scan but the increase of it along with pain has thrown me and now it’s stopped I’m even more confused! Would a miscarriage stop and start?

Hello,

Just wanted to message and send you a huge hug. I’m really sorry you are going through this, I really hope everything works out well for you and I know how scary bleeding can be.

I had a miscarriage a few weeks ago and for me it was very light spotting a few days before my 7 week scan. I’d managed to convince myself everything would be ok, but I guess it just wasn’t my time.

Ive also seen lots of women on here who have had much heavier bleeding around the same time and gone on to see a heartbeat at their scan ❤️ So bleeding/spotting doesn’t always mean a miscarriage is coming.

I’d try call the early pregnancy unit, they really helped me a few weeks ago. Hopefully they’ll be able to give you a couple of blood tests to see how hcg is progressing.

Sending you lots of love

Sorry you experienced it and thanks for your message and kind words! It is so rubbish, we all pray for a positive after ivf but then can rarely enjoy it. I did have a really big bleed last time and then saw heartbeat a few days later so like you say it definitely does happen but I never had pain. It’s quite triggering given all that went on in my last pregnancy and loss so a bit consuming mentally right now because I don’t know what’s going on and it makes me feel really out of control like before. I sometimes think I must be mad to be doing this again!

It’s still dark brown loss today only when wiping, but will definitely call if it gets worse. I thought if I waited til Monday I’ll be 6+1 and last time they were happy to scan from 6 xx

I can completely understand how you feel. This journey sends us so many curve balls and it sounds like you have already been through so much. You are so very strong to be going through it all again after your previous loss.

I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you and I hope your clinic will be able to help on Monday.

I hope tomorrow is a good day and you are able to relax as much as possible

Xxx

Hi there, so sorry you’re going through this (and for what you experienced before) 🤗 to be honest it can go either way, which probably isn’t helpful. In my case I had brown spotting for a week and it turned out I had a missed miscarriage unfortunately. I’d recommend getting a scan as soon as you can for reassurance. All the best to you xx

Thanks, sorry to hear of your missed miscarriage, I kind of knew it could go either way but the pain really worried me although I have had none since. Still spotting though. The EPU won't see me yet so I will have to wait until next week for my viability scan with clinic xx

Sorry you’re having to wait until next week, really hope it’ll all be ok. Try to do things you enjoy to make the wait more bearable xx

I had a similar experience last week. I was then 5+4, but I was bleeding a lot with clogs. It stopped after 3 hours, no more bleeding after that (this was monday last week). Went to ultrasound the day after, and the embryo was still there. No explanation of all that blood. Will have a new ultrasound tomorrow to check for heartbeats. Still scared If the embryo survived that bleeding.

It is really worrying isn't it! The EPU won't see me yet so will have to wait for viability scan next week. Good luck to you x

My scan today showed everything is normal and a tiny, tiny heartbeat😍 The doctor could not explain the bleeding, he told me everything looks perfect. It’s hope!

hi lovely it’s such a worrying time sending you a hug! I agree with what the other ladies have said that it could go either way. At 6 weeks my early miscarriage was defo stop start until after my pregnancy tests went negative that’s when the proper bleeding started however I also had stop start and then even more bleeding with my little boy so it’s so hard to tell. In both cases my clinic did an HCG and that helped look at what was happening xx

Thank you, I need one! It is just the fear of the unknown. EPU won't see me for another couple weeks and I have a viability scan booked in at clinic next week anyway so I think I am going to hold on til then, unless things get worse but hopefully they won't! I have a real fear of having the scans now anyway so I am in no rush even though I do want to know if things are progressing or not.. agh xx

I know what you mean you gotta do what works best for you 🤗 I was an obsessive tester as that helped me but can defo be worse at times 🙈 good that you are getting an early scan though I’m hoping all is okay 💜 xx

I am really sorry you are going through this, it is so horrible! I had a large bleed (dark red) with really painful cramps at 6 weeks. Was convinced I lost it. My clinic told me to continue my meds and go in for an early scan. It turned out it was a large subchorionic hematoma. Apparently quite common in IVF pregnancies, particularly for those on baby aspirin. I was told to immediately stop the aspirin and the hematoma resolved itself by the 12 week scan. Fingers crossed your baby is OK. Call your EPU first thing tomorrow, they should be able to get you in for a scan.

Thanks, I understand how stressful that must have been, I also had a really bad bleed in my last pregnancy so I know it happens but it doesn't calm me, when you see blood it just seems wrong. EPU won't scan me until 8 weeks :( they did not seem concerned by my explanation so I will just wait for the viability scan at the clinic next week x

I am sorry to hear about your EPU. Mine wouldn't see me either because they thought I had miscarried. We paid for a private scan to see what happened as my clinic wasn't going to see me for another week. I am glad we did because not knowing is torture. I hope all goes well for you. x

Hello, in my experience miscarriages are all different. And yes, they can stop and start with a break of a few days even. As much as we want answers quickly the only way to know is a scan. I hope all goes well for you. xx

Hi, I couldn't pass your message without commenting. I'm going through a miscarriage right now. I have a d&c planned for tomorrow morning and unfortunately it's not my first early loss. My baby stopped growing at 6 weeks but I had pregnancy symptoms up until last weekend at 8 weeks. I've only started bleeding since Friday, so 9 weeks. I had some brown spotting but little. As others have said the only way to know what's going on is to have an early scan. I really hope you get good news.

So sorry you are experiencing it now, I hope you have plenty of support. EPU won't scan me until 8 weeks so I will just wait to find out next week at my viability scan with the clinic. Thank you, I will update the post. Big hugs to you xx
