Fresh or Frozen transfer?

My daughter aged 40 has had 3 failed fresh transfers and is now thinking of changing to a new clinic where frozen transfers are the preferred method. Has anyone any experience of this?

Hi from the research I did they have about the same success rate I’ve found. Frozen did work for us (we have a fresh transfer and then a few frozen from the same egg collection) but there’s lots of other factors to consider. Best thing is for her to have a consultation at the new clinic and ask them lots of questions y why they think the new protocol will work etc. the actual transfer part at the end (whether fresh or frozen) is not the only part the main thing is getting some good quality blasts from egg collection and making sure the conditions for transfer at right, whether it’s fresh or frozen might play a part in that depending on your daughters circumstances.

If she’s going to test the embryos it will be a frozen transfer and if she’s going for high stim meds there’s a chance that it might be a ‘freeze all’ cycle anyway due to the risk of OHSS so frozen would be the only option there too. Hope that helps! Xx

I think frozen has a slightly higher success rate. It’s also far less intrusive so you end up being more relaxed. It’s also shorter, just 4 weeks end to end. Obviously you have to have a fresh first to harvest eggs, but then you can freeze all and use them in separate cycles. I’ve had 3 fresh, and 3 frozen. 3 pregnancies (2 on frozen, 1 on fresh). Sadly 2 ended in miscarriage but I’m 6weeks on my 3rd frozen and feeling positive about this one 🤞🏼

For me personally my 2 frozen cycles have been successful, my fresh haven't. If a embroy can survive being frozen then thawed it has already proven to be strong. The process is easier also. Obviously no gaurantee but i would definitely give it a go. All the best of luck.

I have read that frozen transfers actually have higher success rates for women over 35. I never had a fresh transfer due to OHSS but my second frozen one worked. Still early days though. Good luck to your daughter!

I have been dealing with this exact dilemma after two failed fresh and two successful frozen (one ended in miscarriage). We’re trying for a sibling and I did an elective freeze this time (we only got one embryo from our latest round) and have my frozen transfer booked for next week. My advice would be to trust her instincts and don’t be afraid to advocate for her preferences x
