What if I got my day 1 period date wrong?

I'm scheduled to transfer my only frozen embryo I got from a previous round. This will be my final try after several years of unsuccessful ivf so I am quite anxious about it. I had a endometrial scratch which had some spotting afterwards but it seemed to stop. My period is irregular anywhere from 20 to 26 days and usually not usually very heavy. It appeared to start day 23 with pink blood and seemed my usual light but full flow.

I started my oestradiol as scheduled for day 1 both tablets, patches and aspirin. My period then slowed down to light spotting for day 2 (which it sometimes does) but then only continued at a lighter than usual flow but quite dark in colour without the usual period pain I get. I thought this might be due to the oestradiol. However today day 5 when it would usually stop its full flow pink blood and period pains. This makes me think I've got my day 1 wrong. Has this potentially ruined my frozen embryo transfer this cycle?

Probably best to call your clinic but I always spotted before my periods were due (up to a week before) and it was very tricky to work out what was a proper day 1. What the clinic seemed to be most concerned about though was that when they do the 'baseline' scan, the lining was thin and the ovaries were 'quiet'. Sometimes that meant waiting a couple more days after I started bleeding before starting meds. Has your clinic done a scan or have you got one booked? Hopefully if you're now bleeding heavily the lining will be thin but they may want to check everything's ok. Also, on a medicated FET the oestrogen is meant to thicken the lining back up again and I think on my FET they said they could keep me on oestrogen for quite a while if needed to get the lining to where they wanted it, so hopefully even if you need more time on the meds it's still all ok.

Thanks for this. My scan is scheduled for day 10 which will be Thursday. I will ring my clinic on Monday as they are always short staffed and difficult to get hold of. I'm not very experienced at FETs and had been worried after reading some stuff about importance of timing the embryo transfer. I know the challenge will be getting the lining thick enough too.

i had the same issue happen to me and they told me its not a problem cos they usually go after the bloodwork results and scan

Thank you, that's made me feel less stressed about it for the weekend. Been stressing all morning on my own at home as my husband had to go into work.

i was the same i asked several nurses and the doc snd they all said it doesnt matter 😆

Hi Mitch, I experienced this and I was really worried, in my situation , my clinic said sometimes this happens, they told me to have a scan and as a result they started my medication earlier than planned, my transfer date did not change. best to contact your clinic asap for advice, hope this is helpful
