I was due to start another cycle before Xmas but I was sick , and then my husband was sick over Xmas so we had to push it to this month.
Because of my husbands illness at Xmas, his most recent semen sample came back diagnosed with Oligoteratozoospermia. Never had a problem before , however having the flu clearly made a massive impact . So we are going to have to give it another 6-8 weeks and check it again then 🤞. If anyone has had any experience with this, did the semen recover and if so how long approx?
I have adenemyosis which usually means there is endometriosis also. I suffer very badly with my periods and getting worse every year. Maybe ivf has contributed to this.
My consultant has recommended in order to give my next cycle (cycle 5) the best possible chance, that I should do a a laparoscopy . This was a worry for me as I have low amh, that’s my nail concern . But she has assured me that she will not go near my ovaries so it won’t affect my already egg reserve.
I’m 42 next week and I’m starting to really worry I’m running out of time.
Part of me wants to just do another cycle but then part of me wants this lap so I can finally get a proper diagnosis… but the waiting is torture .
This summer it will be 5 years ttc 🫤

Sorry you have both been unwell & hope you both on the road to recovery And yes having the flu can result in a change in semen results Men make semen in 3monthly cycles and this is why they are repeating the test Make sure he is taking his vitamins and has a good healthy diet [ fresh fruit - veg - almonds- walnuts ] + wellman vitamins [ that contain zinc -selenium]
Hi, sorry to hear you've both been ill and that you've had this worry on top of things.
I had a laparoscopy and had a wait for it too so can understand that feeling even though the reason for my lap was blocked fallopian tube (hydrosalpinx from previous appendix surgery as a child).
I would say if that's what your clinic are recommending to go with that. It doesn't take that long to recover from and it might just help to know that you're then in the best position for things to work at that point.
For your partner, to help with semen, avocado, plenty of olive oil, walnuts, Brazil nuts, asparagus, leafy greens like spinach or lettuce and drink plenty of water. Additionally Wellman vitamins too.
My husband has ionic zinc which is a liquid that he drops into a little pomegranate juice each day. He also takes vitamin D drops which he puts onto the walnuts before eating.
Hello, thank you for your message and all your tips :). He’s quite good with diet and taking supplements . But we will be extra good now 🤞
My main worry was I had suggested I had lap surgery a couple of years ago but they always said, no it wasn’t suitable for me considering my age, egg reserve and the fact my ovaries were bit affected. To be now told that I should, is confusing and tbh quite frustrating 🙄
Hope I won’t have to wait too long. How long after the surgery did you go for an egg collection?
Sorry to hear that. It's understandable to find it a bit of a change in gear to go from no to yes on the lap front.
I had my lap last January but we have only just started our first IVF cycle now. Well, I'm just on the birth control pill to quiet my ovaries at the moment. Due to start stimms hopefully second week of March.
We waited for a while after my lap both to allow healing and because we weren't sure of our next steps but I have read a lot of research on how soon after a lap to start IVf and some studies showed between 10-16 weeks after lap resulted in better success, another showed 6mths. If you do some googling you should be able to find them to read up on to be sure for yourself.
Ultimately it's up to you but perhaps you could do with having an appointment with your clinic/consultant to get a bit more clarification on why they previously were against and now for the lap. It might help to answer your queries and help settle your mind on the issue which should in turn help you make your decision. ❤️👍🏻🤞🏻✨
My amh before surgery was 4 .. after it jumped to 7 and has remained constant since thank god. I would def do the lap, as both adenimiosis and endometriosis can affect the uterine environment and can be detrimental to anything implanting as both these conditions create a toxic environment.. Best of luck
