*Sensitive* 7 weeks 2 days : Prolonged spotting for the last 2 weeks

Hi everyone. I’ve been spotting everyday for the last 2 weeks before my first scan. I did my first scan last week Wednesday at 6 weeks 3 days (picture attached) and the doctor confirmed everything is fine.

We also heard the baby’s heartbeat which was 132bpm. I however expected that the spotting should have stopped however this is still ongoing . The blood is typically brown / light pink - only once did I see a small blood clot and that was before the scan. Has anyone had this type of prolonged spotting ?

My next appointment is 8th Feb and I’m trying to to stay calm and not overthink it but sometimes it’s hard as I’ve had a miscarriage in the past and I’m hopeful for our baby this time around .

Some women do experience spotting early in pregnancy - can be due to hormonal changes/ increased blood supply Maybe try clinic/GP to see if they would check your blood[HCG] levels for reassurance

Take care

Pregnancy after miscarriage is a whole new bag of horrors isn’t it! I had some constant spotting that stopped in the days before my 8 week scan. No cause found and pregnancy is still ongoing at present (now 20 weeks). I also had more spotting at 12 weeks.

I can’t promise it’s not the start of something negative but just to say for me, the spotting wasn’t and hopefully you are the same xx

hi there. I’m currently 5 weeks and been spotting since my FET (so two full weeks) and same kind of colour to you.. I had never heard any friends say they had this when they got pregnant (nor did I when I was pregnant many years ago) so thought was definitely miscarrying but my clinic keep telling me it’s ok and carry on with progesterone protocol. The fact you’ve had a positive scan is good x

Same here - my clinic tells me it’s all okay and I should continue with the progesterone but I guess it’s not that easy to be calm. The anxiety can be alot especially coming off from the last pregnancy being a miscarriage. I’m looking forward to the next scan next week hoping that I see some positive progression. Wishing you all the best with your journey as well and I’m here if you ever need to chat ❤️

My daughter now 29 weeks pregnant with her first baby spotted a lot off and on during this pregnancy. This was very stressful for her until around 12 weeks she learned she had a cervical polyp that was the culprit. It settled down but still happens now and then though she is reassured by her OBGYN not to worry and they will remove it after the birth. The polyp wasn’t picked up on several scans and was only seen when her OB took a look herself.

Best wishes for you and your beautiful Bub x

hi I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant with my second and I had a massive bleed bright red blood and a lot of it at 9 weeks which continued like a heavy period for couple of weeks. I do have endometriosis and adenomyosis and when I was scanned this was found to be the cause they could see active bleeding. But everything settled down once I got past 12 weeks they told me the hormones settle down at this stage where the placenta takes over. I never had this with my first so it has been a much more cautious pregnancy so far but still going strong. Wishing you all the best. X

Hi Abimbolao,

Pregnancy after miscarriage is very challenging mentally, I completely understand as am currently 28 weeks pregnant after 6 pregnancy losses. I just wanted to say that I had spotting on and off for about 4 weeks between 5 and 9 weeks. I also had two big bleeds all through this pregnancy. It was all very worrying and I thought for sure it was happening again but the pregnancy is now going very well and they are very happy with his development. Sending lots of love xx

I had spotting and bleeding from weeks 5.5 -14 weeks. Some days heavier with clots. I had an area of bleed some call it a hematoma! So far all is well and I have my 20 week scan on Monday.. Fingers crossed it’s just one of those things.

Best of luck and wishing you a healthy happy pregnancy ♥️

I had bleeding and spotting for almost the entire first trimester and my twin girls are here! Are you on progesterone? I found the pessaries irritated my cervix and caused a lot of the bleeding as progesterone makes the cervix vascular and sensitive. I changed to suppositories instead and it calmed down.

Congrats! Xx

Hi Lana! Thanks alot for sharing your experience ❤️. Yes I’m on progesterone (cyclogest) and I insert it vaginally. I assume suppositories mean you started inserting anally. Did you discuss with your hospital before making the change ?

Ah I moved from lutigest (pessary only) to cyclogest because (as you elude to) it can go in the front or the back. I did talk to my team first and checked because the amount absorbed rectally is potentially a little less! However, I much preferred it and it was my only successful cycle. I had issues with progesterone in all 3 transfers and used 3 different progesterone medications!

Wishing you all the sticky luck! 🤞

Xx

Hi Abimbolao. Well little seems to be quite happy in there. Perhaps some irritation from pessary use causing the brown (old blood) spotting? If you think it is and you are using them, perhaps try your back passage for a few days to allow the front to rest. Hope all continues as it should and your next scan remains perfect. Diane

I’m an acupuncturist that specializes in fertility medicine. I had a client that started bleeding very early in her pregnancy. She continued to bleed well into her pregnancy. Scans showed everything was fine. Her reproductive endocrinologist told her that all women bleed during pregnancy, but only some show it. I presume that means some women have leaky cervical mucous plugs, but most don’t? Or possibly a friable cervix is to blame? Trust the scans. ( :
