Getting rid of unneeded medication?

Hello,

Someone asked recently about getting rid of unneeded medication but I can't find the post. I have lots of Ovaleap stuff left from when we tried IVF with my eggs, but now we're going forward with donor eggs so I won't need it and it's taking up space in our fridge! I remember someone said we can't sell it, which I completely understand, but does anyone know what we can do with it?

All in date - anyone know of any charities that could use it e.g. ones that support people struggling to pay for treatment? Ideally in West Yorkshire so I could drop off to them.

If no-one knows, I'll ask my clinic next time I speak to them, but that might not be for a few weeks.

Thank you x

You would have to take them back to the clinic for destruction x

I don’t think there is which is a real shame considering how people struggle with the costs and we’ve all got spare! My clinic gladly has drugs back to use for demo purposes (when nurses are teaching people how to inject etc).

I did see a post a while ago about a charity that takes needles etc when separate but not actual medication.

Thanks, I'll hang on to the meds until I next speak to the clinic and see if they can use them for demos as you suggest 🙂

And actually I've got loads of needle tips so I'll see if I can donate those separately x

Hi,I work in pharmacy and it's a strict no no of accepting medicines back and re-using it...even of someone literally just picked up their meds, walked out the door and back in. As soon as it leaves the shop we have to destroy it if it is returned.

It's just about patient safety...obviously you wouldn't do anything bad and are just trying to help...but there's no way of knowing if the meds have been tampered with.

For this reason I wouldn't expect there to be any charities allowed to do what you're asking unfortunately.

The only way around it would be a private arrangement with you and someone who needs the meds...but that would be a personal choice between you both and certainly not recommend.

It's a lovely idea though, and a shame that these rules exist 🤷‍♀️

OK, thanks so much. I'll see if my clinic can use them for training and, if not, return them to be destroyed x
