Flying with medication

Hi all, I've not posted I a while as took a break after failed Fet earlier this year.

We now feel ready to have another go so will be having a fresh icsi cycle and I'm due to start my meds on 30th December. We are going to Venice on 2nd of January and we are hand luggage only.

Has anyone flew with their meds and if so what did they take with them, I asked the clinic and they just said that they don't provide letters?

I have treatment abroad so have to fly with meds. My main concern was that I had clexane. My clinic did provide a letter and I told someone at the airport scanners....they weren't interested so hopefully be the same for you. Pretty rubbish they won't do a letter though. Even my NHS clinic provided letters for carrying meds. Good luck.xx

I’ve flown with them and not had any problems. I had my buserelin in with my liquids and got a small sharps box from Amazon.

Take the boxes with your name clearly on them showing they are prescribed to you. I flew from lhr to Poland with meds and syringes in hand luggage. No issue either side. Just had to put the liquid vials in the clear bag

I flew the short 1 hour flight to Scotland with my injections back In the summer. Was absolutely fine. I got a note from the hospital and told security straight away although they didn’t seem bothered at all.

I took a little cool bag and put in some ice packs. They didn’t confiscate these. Then once I got on the plane I put in a couple cold cans.

Thanks for the replies, I will ask again at the clinic, we are going to collect meds next Thursday ready to start on 30th December. Will see if they will provide anything. The airline have advised that I will need a letter. If not hopefully gp would provide one?

Maybe the pharmacy could provide it rather than the dr?

I did. My clinic had no problem to prepare travel letter, but airport staff didn’t even asked for it. I’ve traveled with buserelin and prontogest (progesterone injections). I had to put them in plastic bag, I’ve asked airport lady and she handed me extra bag for medicine. I think I didn’t even need to show them separately syringes and needles!

My experiences (traveled twice) shown that is not an issue at all!

We went on a one week's holiday and took Clexane and lubion. Our clinic did us a standard letter. We carried the meds in our hand luggage and kept it separate with the sharps bin. The staff at the airport did not seem bothered at all. They didn't ask to see the letter. Wishing you lots of luck with your cycle xx

I am on long term Clexane so I always have it with me when I fly (& I fly a lot for work)it's never been an issue at all. I used to have a letter just incase but I've never been asked for it. If your sharps bin is too big to take I'd take a smaller Tupperware. Have a lovely time & all the best with your treatment x

I travelled with buserelin and needles I had a small Tupperware box for the used needles. I did have a letter from the clinic. I took the meds out of my bag and put them in the box and told them I had meds but they didn't bat an eyelid xx

Hi Vicky01 I have my treatment abroad and fly with all my meds, along with meds for my allergies and other drugs for all eventualities,my handbag looks like a chemist haha and I've been fine every time.

I have my treatment in Greece and they geve me a letter just in case i was stopped but when i whent to the airport i whent to the airline I was flying with and told them they said as long as it was in my suitcase that was going under the plane that would be fine it can't be taken on as hand luggage or inside the plan. Hope this helps

Put everything in a clear ziplock bag...and place in tray. Tell security staff they are essential meds. As long as they have your name on there wont be a problem. Have a good trip.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I'm going to ask the clinic again when I pick up my prescription on Friday, hoping they will give me a letter or something just in case, hopefully won't be needed but would be just our luck to get stopped and questioned x
