PCOS advice needed

Hi

I have finally been diagnosed with PCOS and shockingly they’ve told me to lose weight but when I said I was struggling they looked at me as though I was lying. I’ve done loads of reading and it can be a catch 22 whilst the symptoms ease by losing the weight the syndrome makes it difficult to lose in the first place.

Is it worth going back on the pill even though we want a baby just so I can lose the weight?

Did anyone else try anything different?

Any advice would really be appreciated feel a bit overwhelmed with what to do next to help myself.

Thanks

** update ** I have been given orlistat to take for 3 months has anyone had this before? Any tips?

Xx

I have PCOS and totally agree with the difficulties of trying to lose weight but I do agree with tugsgirl about trying a low carb diet as that’s what helps me. Good luck x

Hey I hope you are doing well. I am sorry for the news. You will have to make choices while you're on this infertility journey. I personally think you shouldn't take the medication. It will disturb your hormonal levels which will affect your TTC journey. Visit a good doctor and him/her for advice. Apart from that low carb diet is the only solution. Start eating healthily but have small portions. Also do exercise as that will help a lot. I hope everything gets better for you. Staying stress-free is also really important. Also, stay hydrated. Don't worry I am sure there is nothing to worry about. You will just have to put some effort. Sending baby dust your way.

Hi there - I have started to research hormonal balance myself and came across this PCOS podcast video: gynaegeek.com/podcasts/ 2nd one down. I found it really useful. Try and make small changes and stick to them xxx

Low carb high protein diet worked for me. Early nights to stave off the hunger. It’s hard but us ladies will do anything for our happy endings xx

Hi,

Losing weight when you have PCOS can be extremely difficult and whilst a low carb diet may see you shed some weight initially, it could affect your energy levels and be a short time solution as the weight will come back as soon as you get back on a ‘normal diet’.

The trick is to totally change the way you eat, without necessarily starving yourself. Being put on metformin may also help with the insulin resistance issue.

The best book I have read that has revolutionised the way I eat is called Natural Solutions to PCOS by Dr Marilyn Glenville. She gives a lot of tips on how to change your diet so that you lose weight effectively and keep it off.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Good luck!
