Not accepted onto finance plan with Assured Fertility for 42-44 year olds?

Hello, Has anybody experienced this?

My consultant agreed to another 1 or 2 fresh cycles (in a plan) with my own eggs at my review appointment. I think I would be fine going with the 2 cycle plan direct with the clinic.

However I have been turned down for Assured Fertility 2 cycle plan (only criteria up to 45 and BMI). I am 44 in mid April and my BMI is fine. It's a different consultant reviewing the Assured Fertility plan. Assured would be more than happy to take me. The reason for rejection is 'poor fertilisation in my last cycle' and recommendation of donor eggs, which was only briefly mentioned at my consultation. My last cycle failed in December - I had 16 retrieved, 11 mature, only 4 fertilised and 2 transferred on day 5.

I'm not sure that I want to contest the decision in case it scuppers me getting onto the 2 cycle plan with the clinic direct.

Any thoughts and experiences appreciated. Realise my odds are pretty low according to national statistics. My consultant wrote up '5-10% at most' in my review letter.

Hope all is going well for everyone and good luck to all who need it right now xx

Hello. I can't offer any advice regarding the finance plan unfortunately but I wanted to wish you the best of luck.

My thoughts are can your clinic offer any advice to improve the fertilisation rates? I.e is it the sperm more than egg quality? Can they do something different their end?

I was 42 when I became pregnant and 43 when I gave birth to my little girl... I don't think my clinic were too hopeful for me but if you look at my profile I did lots to try and boost egg quality and did two back to back cycles which worked well for me.

I tried not to look at stats too much as recommended by someone on here as it just depressed me. And to be honest isn't 'natural' birth odds only something like 13% each month anyway? xxx

Thank you! The only advice my clinic have on the fertilisation is to use ICSI. On my first cycle I had 16 mature eggs and 14 fertilised with IVF alone. On my second cycle only 2 fertilised so I was switched to ICSI where 4-6 have fertilised from around 11-13 mature. I think the problems egg quality as I've been having the wrong number of pronuclei with ICSI.

Unfortunately the stats are lower than that. It's 5% after 42 I think (HEFA/ NHS).

I'll take a look at your profile for tips. Congratulations 👏 I love stories like yours. Thanks for sharing xx
