Just found out about this group and it seems like a good place to talk.
I'm 39 and my husband is 42 and we have been trying for a baby since last March. I have made an appointment to see a doctor next Tuesday to discuss my options and if there are any tests I will need to have.
My mental health has started to suffer this month as it is coming up to a year since we started and I'm worried its never going to happen for us.

Hi, welcome to the group, just to say you are in safe hands here, there are so many amazing people on here who are super supportive. I am sorry you are starting to struggle the not knowing and hope every month is definitely exhausting. Hopefully your doctor will listen to you and suggest some tests. It depends a little bit on your area but we found because I was in my late 30's when we decided to self refer it was a lot quicker and easier to go private (if that is an option) because my NHS region didn't offer fertility treatment to people over 35. You can often get blood tests initially on the NHS looking at egg reserve and semen quality though which is always a good place to start. Good luck x
the doctor will definitely pass you on for tests and they won’t waste time with it. You still have some time on your side but you have to get going quickly because as Daisy says it depends where you are. In lambeth ccgs have a cut off of 40 for fertility on nhs but in Merton it’s 42 - so it’s very different depending on area. For me I was 38 when I sought GP help and whilst doing tests they made us try for a year anyway so it sounds like you’ve done the hard part. They were very quick once they’d decided we were candidates for ivf but again, it depends on the local area.
