Hi everyone, hope the Christmas period has been okay for everyone. Such an intense time of year! I’m looking for some advice…
I’ve just had my second failed round of IVF and I’m not sure what to do next. I have a follow up consultation in a couple of weeks and want to make sure I ask all the right questions and ensure I’m getting all the right opportunities.
My story - I’m 39, doing it on my own with donor sperm. I have no obvious issues and had unexplained fertility when trying with my previous partner. Both cycles have been short protocol. Had 6 eggs collected each time, 3 fertilised and had 5 day ET on first cycle and a 3 days ET on the second. Both times my embryos have been low grade.
Are there any other tests I should be requesting? I heard that if you go abroad they ‘flush’ your system. Does anyone have experience of going abroad? It seems like a very daunting prospect but as it’s so much cheaper it may be my only option now.
I know 2 rounds isn’t very many in the scheme of things, I’m just feeling so anxious I’m going to keep trying and just not get anywhere.
Any advice massively appreciated!
Xxx

I’m so sorry this round wasn’t successful. The whole process is gruelling; negatives are soul destroying, and made much more challenging alone I’d imagine. You’re incredibly strong.
I had 3 failed rounds and didn’t ever ask what I could do differently or which tests to consider. It was too raw. But, it’s been so informative coming here & learning from other women in our position. This forum is a fantastic source of information and support.
What I managed to change was my state of mind - I really worked on my mental health, confronted demons & approached recent round in a much better head space.
I had weekly fertility acupuncture / reflexology. I also had fertility hypnosis.
I can’t say which, if any of the above made a difference, but being less anxious has been a bloody godsend!
I hope you get some answers & suggestions. Here’s to 2023.
Its heartbreaking when a cycle fails give yourself time to process and be kind to yourself. When you have your consultation to discuss your failed cycle ask what you can do differently next time. Sych as if chaning to a long protocol could make a difference, what other meds you could try like maybe adding testosterone gel. Are you currently taking any supplements? If not I would recommend trying coenzyme q10 and asking at your consultation if they recommended anything else. Good luck x
