hi all, I am reading the book "It starts with the egg" by Rebecca Fett at the moment, and getting extremely paranoid about the plastic in invisalign (I have been wearing invisaligh for 7 months now and never thought of any danger) . There is a statement on invisalign website that it is BPA and phthalates free. However, it also says that it is made of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and 1.6-hexanediol, and if I google this composition it seems to be harmful (made of aniline and formaldehyde). Have any one researched it and does Rebecca or anyone reputable on plastic comment on it anywhere? I am getting worried as I cannot stop my invisalign but I also had a failed IVF cycle (only 5 eggs collected, 4 good quality and 1 fertilised embrio) . Help please, any advice will be welcomed.

does invisalign plastic influence fertility ? "It starts with the egg" Rebecca Fett
I sorry to hear about your round not being successful. Ivf is incredibly unfair and totally a lottery.
I completely get your anxiety. No advice on plastic but that book is incredibly good at giving people (including me) anxiety. I read it and started having a nervous breakdown about the amount of plastic in my home and that I was taking all the wrong supplements etc etc
It’s good at outlining supplements to ask the consultant about but imo not good for the other things. I completely get though that removing plastic from my home/food etc gave me control in a place where I have none though
I imagine the amounts of chemicals in your Invisalign will be small and unlikely to do anything to your egg quality. You could ask your clinic though if you are worried? They would likely tell you to not use it if they thought it would affect your success.
I did better in my second and third rounds of Ivf because they changed my dose and my drugs (5 eggs to one not quite blast on day 5 in round one to blasts frozen in last 2). My last round I went on holiday and had covid and still did better than my terrible first round.
I hope your next round brings you your healthy baby.
thank you so much for your reply, it is by chance I found this website and I am so happy to speak to someone with the same experience. you said it so right, now I am very anxious about the plastic at home and especially in my mouth ))) I will try not taking it too seriously, it is true that so many woman get pregnant without doing anything at all. I just find it very overwhelming to understand everything about toxic plastic like I need a degree to navigate all the dangers. Thank you for your support! I wish you success with your IVF , big hug!
I have not read the book however my thinking is that the majority of women fall pregnant and aren't even aware of the book. Doctors would ask you to follow it if there was proven success. I believe ivf is down to luck. You will have people rhat have read the book with success and people that have read it with no success. Ivf is stressful enough without adding the extra stress if removing loads if things from your home! All the best of luck!
This book! Just try to take what it says very lightly. As a very general direction in improving diet, finding a good supplement etc. As others said millions of women around the world have babies without doing a single thing of what this book says. The author isn't a reproductive endocrinologist or gynaecologist. After 5 years of infertility having spoken to quite a few consultants more than 10 and no one ever mentioned any of the exaggerated advice f this book.
thank you so much for your reply and support! I will continue my invisalign then, it seems all women commented with the same idea - it is not a big deal, thank you so much! I took my invsaligh out for two days in panic , I am better now, I really needed the collective brain on this , haha , thank you!
I am sorry about your failed round, the first round is so often a trial to see how your body responds and whilst we all hope we will be the lucky ones that it works on round one, the reality is thats only a minority... I would put money on it being nothing to do with your Invisalign.
I HATE that book with a passion, I have seen so many panicked posts on here and people with high anxiety because they used the wrong saucepan or moisturiser. I do think things like BPA free plastic is a good idea but I think that in life in general - not just TTC. IVF is stressful enough without placing so many restrictions and worries on yourself you end up in a state - which will do nothing for your chances of success. Take a few tips from the book but please don't read it like the bible.
If you are worried then yes I would check with your clinic, but as the others have said, people get pregnant every day with much worse things being put into their body than the tiny amount of things in Invisalign, I am sure this has nothing to do with your first round result and is highly unlikely to impact future rounds. Heaps of luck x
hey, thank you for your reply, yes, you are right, the first time is like a trial, it was stressful and upsetting , as I only could use one ovary, something happened during hormone therapy, presumably a follicle got busted and it created a cyst during my IVF cycle which resulted they could not extract eggs from one ovary, as it was not reachable, effectively leaving me with only 5 eggs, anyway... Thank you for your support with the plastic issue , I really appreciate you taking time to reply , I will stop getting paranoid now))) good luck to you too!x
Hi,My mate had invisalign in before transfer and throughout her pregnancy without any issues. I have invisalign in and am not concerned about it.
I think it's a combination of many factors that has a dramatic impact, but having said that I have changed my deodorant, shower wash etc... I also eat better and take loads of vitamins.
The other concern people have is nail varnish after reading that book. I still wear it.
Good luck with your journey.
X
thank you so much for your reply! yeah, I also changed my routine with many things, food especially, found it beneficial not only when trying for a baby but in general but still looking for a good shampoo and hair products))) I cancelled gel nails, which I used to have a lot. I am also concerned about dying my hair, so now I am a "natural beauty" , hope it will not last for too long, want to be blond again ))) Good luck with your journey xxx
