Low Morphology - can it be normal?

Some places seem to say if it’s just morphology that is low in sperm analysis then it is still considered normal so not a problem - is that true? Husband’s sperm had 1% morphology, other results normal though density was a bit low. Going to ask for another retest (he’s had two tests already). He has been taking Wellman vitamins and extra zinc. Anything else that can be done to improve morphology? Anything that will help without fertility treatment (IVF, IUI etc.)? We have two children already so will probably not go down that route. Seeing GP again soon and don’t know what to ask - last GP was very relaxed about it all, probably as had to wait until my surgery was done anyway. I had myomectomy to remove large fibroid but was told the position of it was such that it was unlikely to be cause of infertility. Had all my tubes etc checked with dye and all fine.

Hello,

My husband had low sperm morphology, just 1% which meant that whilst it’s possible to fall pregnant naturally, it could take a while (it took us five years to fall pregnant once and that ended in a miscarriage). Our consultant at the time, gave us a less than 5 percent chance of falling pregnant within twelve months given that we hadn’t in the five years before. That was too long for us to wait, and so we were advised that ICSI would give us the best chance of conceiving. That was before we knew about my immune issues but anyway, my husband took proxeed for a year, twice a day alongside fertility smart supplements. He was also advised to;

- reduce his heavy intense exercise regime (he boxed five times a week)

- wear lose cotton underwear

- take cooler showers

- reduce alcohol consumption

- try to keep himself cool (he always overheats)

Repeating the tests a year later, after also going through three months of reflexology, his sperm morphology improved to 3%.

Hope that helps xx

hi, my husband had good results except morphology (around 2%). We were advised he should take proxeed for at least three months before next round and at egg collection his sample was showing as normal 😊 so I definitely think it helps and there are plenty of proxeed success stories on here if you search it (it’s what encouraged me to get them for him). It is a bit pricey but i’d say go for it x

Hi there, my partners results were good except 1% morphology we had to have DE ivf anyway so just planned ICSI. He then did a second test and morphology was 4%. At the point of the 2nd test he had been taking vitamins every day for 3 month and no smoking or drinking for 8. The nurse told us sometimes having a virus or being poorly before a sample is given can affect the result. On the day of IVF we were told his sperm sample was excellent so it really can change a lot

Good luck x.

Thanks good to know. My husband started taking Wellman vitamins and extra zinc and we’ve also increased our vegetable intake. He had test done twice but GP said they were done too close together so we are hoping we can get the test repeated again. I do hope it might change since we didn’t have trouble conceiving our first two children. Not sure if we will go down the IVF route, feels a lot to go through when we do have two children so just trying to see what else we can do to increase chances of conceiving without treatment for now.

Yes vit D , zinc , Vit E , vitb12 will increase both male & female fertility.Taking b12 supplements will increase sperm20 to 100 million.Women deficient in b12 can continue to miscarriage,have foetal abnormalities,high blood pressure,PCOS , endometriosis, anaemia, low .iron , depression. Check active level first before supplementing as regular b12 shots may be required.
