Severe bloating and massive pain in the abdomen (and even more sever ones every 5 minutes or so) and I cannot even lie down due to shooting pain in the rib cage.
The doctor thinks it is ohss. Can it happen with a low number of eggs? My estrogen level was elevated before egg collection but nothing concerning. I'm just wondering if any other diagnoses might be possible..

Hi! This happend to me on my 3rd collection. I didn't respond well to stims and at day 6 doctor increased my dose hopping we'll get a few more eggs. At collection got from the right side 2 eggs and 6 on the left side. But got OHSS, had many little follicles that didn't had time to grow.
Yes I had OHSS with about 7 eggs.. not sure what you think is a 'low' number as it's all relative! 7 was a good haul for me but I know 'low' for OHSS numbers. They gave me a drug called Capergoline or something like that and it sorted itself out in 3 days x
I only had two embryos by day 3 and they were looking dodgy so they put them back in despite the OHSS, mainly because they didn’t think they would be good enough to freeze. Normally they would delay transfer x
I developed OHSS with 22 eggs collected. Had abdominal cramps but no rib cage pain, that sounds different and serious, you might want to get it checked in A & E. For the OHSS, my consultant told me to take protein shakes and yoghurts which help absorb the excess liquid that builds up. I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks. You were right. It doesnt seem to be ohss although the doctor who did the egg collection and said was ohss never acknowledged other possibilities. My doctor today after listening to my symptoms said a possibility of internal bleeding. And on the scan there is some bleeding or fluid under diaphragm which seems to cause my rib cage pain radiating also on my shoulder. Anyways I hate some doctors do not consider all possibilities and just say well all women are different.. that is what he said. Even when I mentioned ribcage issue my doctor said it might be internal bleeding , the doctor who said ohss just ignored saying every one feels pain differently. I think he perhaps hoped that with pain killer and time things will resolve by itself? Irresponsible I feel like. Sorry for a long complaining message. I'm feeling a bit better.. according to internet if it's little bleeding it can heal by itself.. ... thanks for listening..
How awful! If it is internal bleeding, you need to go to A & E. This can become very serious and life-threatening. There is a risk of blood clots etc. Have yourself checked and they can give you the right prevention so that you can heal properly and be ready for that embie Sending hugs and positive vibes!
