So at my consultation I have been suggested to go enquire about my autoimmune concerns and get accurate advice from a clinic which specialist in immunology, just so we have the advice of which steroids to take or NK cell testing etc and then come back to my clinic.
The decision we are facing is short or long protocol. I thought they would suggest to give up on my eggs due to failed rounds and no fertilisation last round but due to my age (28) my consultant has said 100% stick with my eggs as they are hopeful of quality (im a bit more hesitant!).
Has anyone done long/short protocol and has better results with one or the other? My other rounds have been short protocol and they are suggesting double trigger if I go for short.
let me know what you think, hope your all well x

Hi Mlove. With my lower ovarian reserve I have found short protocol to be better suited. I had long protocol my first ever round and it did me no favours. However it can vary between people and I have certainly read of people with lower reserve for whom long protocol was better. Sorry, that doesn't help much. I know now that for some people with lower reserve, and by no means everyone, the ovaries can struggle to wake back up after being shut off via down regulation. This is what happened to me xx
Hey Skittles, this is really helpful to know thank you for sharing your experience. I am leaning towards short if im honest as long protocol sounds exhausting and also very expensive lol! I hope your doing ok x
I had the same experience thank Skittles11 !Also with low eggs produced.
Have a look in YouTube “egg whisperer” she is a fertility doctor from Harvard and recommend few supplements and also gives some guidance to improve our eggs quality.
Hi Mlove. My feelings are that a short protocol; can sometimes be gentler and encourage eggs to come out rather than are forced out. See what the others advice and good luck with whichever you go with. Diane
Hi Mlove12, we did two rounds of short protocol egg collections (I have super low AMH) and it worked really well. From your profile it seems that you only had one failed transfer which is quite common so do you know the reason why they want to focus on your autoimmune system (is your thyroid condition autoimmune)? With your second round when you had 8 eggs collected did they use ICSI to fertilise ? Has the quality of the sperm including dna fragmentation been tested ? Sending you love
Thanks for replying. I think they suggested looking into autoimmune because I’ve had autoimmune issues (been on immune suppressants etc) in the past and have family history of it so consultant said this may be why it’s not implanting and why my AMH is low for my age as this links with autoimmune sometimes. They didn’t use ICSI as there’s apparently no issues with sperm but have suggested to use ICSI in our next round, they haven’t tested dna fragmentation as they don’t have any evidence that side of stuff if bad and have had fertilisation in first round, think it’s an egg issue.
Currently waiting to hear back from the immunology clinic so all being well we can get a pla any advice or experiences welcome x
