hey - I’ve seen a lot of you posting about betas - my clinic hasn’t mentioned any testing until a urine test 14 days after transfer. This seems a bit late to be testing given the embryos were already partly developed before transfer and ‘ovulation’ was several days before that!
If I don’t have beta testing does this mean I don’t get to know if I had a missed miscarriage?
Seems like my clinic is being slightly hands-off on this? (Also if my pregnancy test is negative they won’t see me for 3 months!!)

My clinic is the same - you do a urine test on day 14 after transfer, and if positive they sometimes ask you in for a blood test. The idea being that you know you are definitely pregnant by then as sometimes it can be a late implanter, so if its negative 14 days PT then in reality its never going to turn positive. I know it feels ENDLESS.
I am not sure about your missed miscarriage comment. The only way you will know you are pregnant is if you test, and you will know via a urine test as much as a blood test. At that early stage it would be a chemical pregnancy rather than a missed miscarriage which is typically where you get faint positives but they don't get any darker on urine tests. Typically as the tests fade your period will come.
If its any consolation my previous clinic didn't do blood tests at all, you just pee'd on a stick and if it was positive they took your word for it and booked you in for a scan at 7 weeks, and if it was negative you had to call and book a follow up appointment when there was one available (which could be several months like your clinic). I guess what I am saying is nothing you have said is unusual so try not to panic, all clinics do things differently. Good luck x
thanks mrs!! It’s so hard to know as you’re only told one step at a time so you end up comparing with what others are saying! I thought maybe if they were testing ‘betas’ maybe if it didn’t work they’d better know at what point it went wrong. Let’s hope I don’t have to have that question and that it does work! Altho slightly concerned as they put two embryos back (I fit their guidelines) and I’m scared of twins, but also does not wanting twins mean I want one of them to not make it, which I can’t want, so I’m very conflicted!)
Beta tests don’t work like that, it’s a point in time HCG reading to confirm pregnant or not, and then one maybe two days later to check it’s doubling but even if it goes wrong they don’t really help in understanding specifically when and why. I have everything crossed you are BFP all the way!
I totally get the confusion etc., I have spent years on here wishing my clinic would do a blood test cos everyone else seemed to have so much more info and all sorts of bells and whistles! I got to the point I realised I needed to trust my clinic and follow my own journey and try not to worry what everyone else is doing. It’s crazy hard tho!
It’s so hard with the multiples thing. If it’s any consolation I had three put back several times and didn’t have triplets 😂 you don’t not want one to survive - you just are worried about the implications of having twins! Whatever happens you will be grand! Sending you heaps of luck xx
I sympathise ForABabyPanda - I had 2 put in, I had a BFP on my OTD beta yesterday at 14dp2dt and the wait was agonising.
Not knowing how many are in there is an extra conundrum, but I suppose no one knows until the scans say one way or another since single embryos can split and people who didn’t go our route can sometimes end up with a multiple.
We’ve thrown the dice and we just have to wait to see how they fall I guess 🤷🏻♀️ Hoping all goes well for you xx
mine is at home urine tests only- they only do a blood test if you have a positive and there is bleeding. They say day 14 (for frozen) and day 12 for fresh to make sure the results are accurate. You can of course test earlier yourself and I did that on day 8 which went lighter with bleeding on day 14 so knew I had had a chemical (before they did get me in for bloods the week later to confirm because of the bleeding) whether beta or urine by day 14 you will know either way 🤞🏽 Xx
