Private funding

Hi,

I wonder if anybody could help. We have had all the fertility tests available on the nhs and have been told our infertility is ‘unexplained’. We have also been told we are not entitled to nhs funding.

We have been looking at funding ivf privately and wondered if anybody could share their experience of this. Would we be able to take our nhs test results to a clinic to avoid having to pay for all the tests again or would we need to repeat these tests at the selected clinic ?

Thank you !

You should be able to transfer NHS test results to a private clinic but you may need to request copies of the results yourself to send to the clinic. We did that although our private clinic was actually an NHS clinic we paid for privately. Xx

I was able to use the results of the NHS tests at the clinic, they only asked that they weren't older than 3 months. I think each clinic will be different in that, but definitely worth asking! X

heya. Yes, you should be able to bring across your results. We’ve always paid privately - there are ‘multi cycle’ packages worth thinking about, where you pay for instance for two fresh cycles and unlimited frozen transfers as a fixed, pre determined sum. If you get pregnant on your first try you will have over paid - but if you do end up needing a second or third transfer it ends up significantly cheaper. Worth considering. Though remember that the packages never include the medication and that’s not cheap either!

Good luck :)

amazing ! Thank you so much ! We have had a hycosy procedure , teste ultra sound , all necessary blood tests , semen analysis and abdominal ultra sound. Would they require any further results ? 😊

No problem. I would have thought those tests are everything you need :) unless later down the line they recommend something more specialist, but unlikely at this stage. :)

Is your AMH included in this? Mine wasn't tested when i was diagnosed with unexplained a few years ago and i had iit done at the nhs fertility clinic after i was referred and reached the top of the list.

Maybe the semen analysis need to be repeated. My husband's initial nhs sperm analysis never mentioned morphology (even the analysis that they do with each cycle never did, in our nhs cycles). When we had consultations with a couple of private clinics here and abroad they wanted the analysis repeated because of this.

hi , I’m not too sure about the AMH , is it a blood test ? I’ll check this.

My partners analysis included the morphology so hopefully this is accepted .

Thank you

Yes, it is the antimullerian hormone, it measures your ovarian reserve. It is usually used along with the Antral Follicle Count scan to determine how much drugs you will need to stimulateyour ovaries. I might be wrong but i think the GPs, at least here in Glasgow, don't offer it as part of standard fertility testing, it is usually asked by a fertility specialist.

Like the others we were able to use our tests from NHS but we did find that some had a certain validity period on them and so the clinic then insisted on re-doing them which got quite expensive. They did insist on doing their own semen analysis though.

Just a word of warning, it could just be our area but once we started with IVF any additional tests that were needed our GP refused to do so again we ended up paying. So for example at our clinic we had to have an HIV test every six months I think it was, and Chlamydia every six months and we ended up having to pay for them every six months at our IVF clinic as the GP got really funny about it! Hopefully just our crap doctors though as they are a bit of a nightmare xx
