Has anybody experienced this?

Good morning everyone!

I’ve been reading lots on here, but never actually written anything myself. My husband and I are going through our second cycle (short protocol).

On our first attempt, we had 7 eggs, but only two survived and we had them transferred at day two. Unfortunately, we both lost them.

This round, we had 5 eggs, four died straight away and I had the remaining one transferred two weeks ago (it was also a day two embryo). Today is our OTD.

Whilst last time, I had no desire to test early, I felt really negative and tested from day 7 and they were all negative. Today I tested and it was also negative, but turned positive after the three minutes (I’m not exactly sure when, it could have been 5min or an hour after). I’ve talked to the nurse who told me to keep going with my progesterone injections and test again tomorrow. I’ve also been spotting (just brown blood and not very much) since Sunday.

Has anybody experienced something similar and still tested positive? Like I said I’ve felt this time it hasn’t worked and the positive kind of threw me.

Thank you very much for any advise and sorry for the long post ☺️

It's really important to only check a home pregnancy test within the window advised on the packaging, as you can get indent lines HOWEVER that doesn't mean its definitely negative as I know many people who have had their positive test much later than their OTD.

The spotting could be a number of things such as irritation from the progesterone or just your body cleaning out any old blood. Implantation is more of a pinkish colour and a loss would be bright red.

Thank you very much for your reply ☺️ I know, I wasn’t intentionally looking after the three minutes, but I’ve kept them all (I’m not sure why!) , and none of them showed a positive later on. It just really confused me, because I didn’t think that I could be.

That’s quite reassuring to know a late positive happened although I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much ☺️

Can the progesterone cause irritation even when I take the injections, rather than suppositories? I definitely only had old blood, no pink or bright red.

Thank you again ☺️

I sort of had this experience in my last cycle. I would follow the clinics advice to test again in a day or so because it won’t hurt the outcome either way to have another day of meds.

It could be a late starter and I have heard of people getting a positive test later and I’m sure others have more experience of this.

When testing out my miscarriage in April, they said that if there is hgc in any tiny amount, a test will eventually go positive.

In my last cycle, I started spotting very lightly towards the end of my tww. Tested very lightly positive. Then again on otd. The line never progressed so was classed as a biochemical pregnancy. I hope it isn’t this but that’s the other thing I could think of.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thank you so much for your reply ☺️ Yes that’s what I thought, whilst I waited for the nurse to call me back I did do the injection as I thought it’s not going to do any harm.

Ok, I’ll hope then that it’s a late starter then. As it was only a two day embryo I guess it’s possible? In all the years we’ve tried, I’ve never had a positive even when I left them, so it really confused me.

Thank you so much! I’m sorry you had to go through this all yourself, I’ll have my fingers crossed for you too 🤞

Hi itsibitsy, Your nurse has given you good advice, so keep up with the progesterone. The brown spotting is old blood and could be due to some irritation or infection, and is so common. Just wanted to wish you well as you test again in the morning. Diane

Thank you so much Diane! I’ve been feeling kind of shivery, so I might have an infection, I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll mention it to the nurse tomorrow. Thank you so much, that means a lot ☺️
