So disappointed 😔

Got the phone call from our embryologist today. Only 2 out of 7 eggs fertilised. We’re totally gutted although know we’ve still got a chance. We’ve been booked for a day 3 transfer but hoping they make it to day 5.

It’s just so different from our first cycle, 11 eggs > 8 fertilised > x5 blastocysts by day 5 and two transferred, none made it to freeze and one live birth (we know we’re super lucky & are thankful every day for our miracle).

We did everything the same except short protocol this time as our clinic isn’t offering long due to Covid.

Is it just bad luck? Or could my eggs really have deteriorated that much since our last round 2 years ago?! I’m now 41.

Hi, it’s so hard to know. My 2nd round was a bit like that but we have known male factor issues so linked it to that. Im sorry you’ve had that blow to the belly update call, I still remember ours. But you’ve still got 2 embryos culturing and growing so all is not lost!

Should things not work out It’s worth getting as much info from the embryologist as possible for your follow up with the consultant. But until then let’s hope otherwise eh xx

As my friend always says, all you need is one good one. I remember being really dissapointed in my first round of IVF with just 4 eggs collected, 4 fertilised but only two making it to day 5. (on NHS age 41, AMH 20.92).

So you still have everything to play for, so to speak. Positive mental visualise that these embryos are growing nicely and we are all wishing you the best of luck.

I am so sorry you are so disappointed but also channelling luck and that those two embies result in a BFP - your body has done it before hopefully it can remember how to do it again!

Don't immediately blame yourself. We have had 4 rounds with some very mixed results. last time we only got 2 embryos as 7 fertilised abnormally and that ended up being a sperm issue because my OH had been very ill 2/3 months before and turns out that has a negative impact on sperm! Who knew!? we didnt and openly wouldnt have done that round if we had we would have waited a month or two.

Anyway I always blame myself but it takes two to make a baby. I am 43 and a lot older women have had successful pregnancies, I would notch this down as a bit of a rubbish round, no ones fault, but hopefully one of those embies at least is a fighter...

this doesnt mean all hope is lost, and it will happen again, its just a blip xx

So sorry you're disappointed lovely, I think we all want 'just one more'.

To give you a bit of hope....I only got 4 eggs on my first cycle, only 1 fertilised and I'm now 29 weeks. So it can be done. I was gutted that we didnt get any to freeze but couldnt be happier now.

Its only natural to feel like that, we soon realise that its not the end of the world and pick ourselves up. When is day 3 xx

Thanks lovely. We did IVF. It’s such a reality check regarding my age. Shocked that things can change so much in 2 yrs. Even my consultant is surprised. Fingers crossed for our remaining 2 🤞🤞. Really appreciate the support x

I had 14 eggs collected and only 1 fertilised. I remember feeling so distraught that it was such a duff round. I had a 2 day transfer with that one embryo and my 14month old is now sleeping soundly in his cot. It can happen! Good luck! Xx

My very first transfer was a double 3day & he is now 4 years old. Currently in my 2ww of a single embryo as now am 44 my numbers have went down. I ended up with only 2 eggs and was initially so disappointed but the one I have inside me is a top grade ... we only need one 🤞🏼🙏🏻💪🍀

My friend only had 2 embryos fertilise. She transferred them both on day 2 or day 3 and they both took. She now has twins ☺️💕 You really never know! 🤞🏻xxx
