We now have the go ahead to start our treatment next week but we have had a wobble at the first hurdle. This time we are also going for sperm freezing after a varicocele ligature and my husband said they have only 2 sperm to freeze from the sample today as rest were not motile. My husband is really upset. We knew this was a possibility which is why we are freezing and looking to produce a fresh sample on the day. I think to get the best chances we will try another sample to freeze and hope for the best. The bit I struggle with is that we both get so upset and frustrated in the process, taking it out on those closest. Any tips on how to handle things better?
Thank you!

Make sure you have people around you who can support you - keep talking to your OH to help the feelings you have at the moment which are to be expected. Have you been offered a counselling appointment by your clinic? Or get in touch with the British Infertility Counselling Association bica this is not a free service, but they are specially trained in counselling couples with fertility issues. Our website fertilitynetworkuk.org also offers support - on home page select menu - Learn about Fertility to access Himfertility
Thank you for replying. I think counselling is a good steer. We haven’t been for counselling before. I know our clinic offer it so I will contact them and look at the information which you have provided which is very helpful.
hi there, we would likely go the same route by freezing different semen samples and doing IMSI next time 😕 need to check with our clinic on the prices but do you think this is better than sergical sperm retrieval? With sergical there will be less fragmentation I guess. So hard to make a decision what exactly to do we want to fix the root cause (varicoceles) maybe first but we don’t want to lose precious time…
I would definitely recommend getting as much investigated as possible as I think this has improved our chances. We haven’t considered or discussed surgical retrieval x
