EMMA and ALICE tests

Hello,

Is there anyone who has had the EMMA (Endometria Microbiome Metagenomic Analysis) and ALICE (Analysis of Infectious Chronic Endometritis) tests prior to IVF frozen transfer.

I have had 2 unsuccessful transfers and this has been suggested by my clinic. For anyonewho has, how long did it take for results to come back and how long after treatment if required did you have to await before next transfer?

Thanks in advance

Hi Sunseeker99, sorry you’re transfers were unsuccessful.

I had EMMA, ALICE and ERA done last year. I prepped as if for a normal FET cycle so that cycle was purely for testing as biopsy is done when you would typically have the transfer, I was then allowed stop progesterone and wait for the bleed. The results in my case (Irish clinic) took 3-4 weeks so another cycle. I was then able to prep and make the changes on the next cycle.

It showed two issues for me, one was a simple course of probiotic pessaries (10 days) and the 2nd showed I needed an additional day of progesterone before each transfer which I have now done on every subsequent transfer.

We’re still waiting for a lucky sticky transfer but we will get there. We have a daughter from our first round of IVF ever but we’ve had 9 FET since with no luck.

Best of luck with it all.

I had Emma and Alice this year and it took 2-3 weeks for the results to come back. If it had come back with no issues I would have been able to start my FET in the next cycle, but I needed a course of probiotics and antibiotics (EMMA). After the repeat biopsy came back all clear I could have started my FET in the very next cycle, but my clinic ended up closing and during the wait to transport our embryos to a new clinic we ended up falling pregnant.

I know no1 can say conclusively but I truly believe the problems with the bacteria were the reason for our infertility.

Wishing you all the luck

Xx

Hello I am glad it worked out for you 😊, can I ask which probiotics you took please? They have said I need a months worth but one of the suggested ones dose is to take for 6 days then one a week for 4 weeks. I would have thought I needed them continuously. I may contact the company that does the biopsy to ask themThanks x

Yes I had the same ones I think - canesflor. My consultant advised me to take antibiotics for one week, then probiotics for one week, then antibiotics for one week, then probiotics for one week. I then had my biopsy and while I waited for the results I continued taking the probiotics once a week. I was also taking oral probiotics everyday which I bought from the Zita West website (not sure if you can get them anywhere else). My intention was to carry on taking the probiotics until my FET (which I did for about 4 weeks) but I stopped when I got a BFP.

Hello sorry it’s been a rough journey so far. Ours has been a long tough road. I’ve just had Emma Alice and era. All three came back with something, I need an extra day of progesterone, one week of antibiotics and a month of probiotics. Then another biopsy after this and then hopefully that should be good and we can transfer the following cycle after the results. The results last time took around 3 weeks Wishing you the best of look.

I wish I had just taken probiotics anyway although they would of possibly not worked with having the infection

Thank you everyone for your replies, its really helpful. I think we are going to go ahead with them to double check things before wasting another good quality embryo. Hopefully the results do come back quickly.

Our 1st transfer was a successful transfer but devastatingly we lost our little boy as I went into premature labour at 21 weeks and I ended up with an infection and also had to have surgery to remove my placenta so that is in the back of my mind.

This journey is so hard. Wishing all the luck and love to everyone. X
