I had my 6th (and final) transfer today. It didn’t go well. I hadn’t drank enough water and they struggled to get the catheter in. They had 3 different ones and two different doctors had a go. The embryo had to go back into warming whilst they eventually got the catheter in.
Home now but I’m in a fair amount of pain from all the prodding (I think I’m sensitive down there anyway as most transfers hurt!) but I’m so worried now that my chances of a bfp are less now?
Has anyone had similar and had a good result? Xx

This sounds just like my transfer! My cervix is a bit crooked they said, so they struggled getting the catheter in. Very painful and stressful so I feel you. I have a very healthy 8 month old little boy.
Thank you so much for replying! I’m really pleased to hear yours still worked. I just feel really deflated as there was blood and all sorts from my cervix!
I’ve also started steroids today so the anxiety is a bit higher than normal!
I’m hoping the bad transfer means a good outcome 😂 x
Some transfers are more difficult than others and I hope your discomfort settles down in a day or two . Meantime take it easy - rest when you can - eat healthfully and drink plenty of fluids Take any meds you have been given as directed Take care of yourself
I’ve had some tricky transfers (not due to not enough to drink, just cervix being difficult!) and they’ve had to involve clamps and all sorts - but I’ve always been reassured that it doesn’t impact the chances of success. I completely understand the concern though, when you’re expecting something to be simple and it’s really not it’s unsettling. You can only try to focus on the fact it’s in now, and the embryo was safe in the lab during the poking and prodding so was unaffected.
Thank you so much. I was also ok with the other transfer this one was just awful! I guess I’m worried at the embryo was in and out of the warmer thing so you just panic it’s not had the best of starts! I’m taking steroids and clexane this go as it’s literally my last shot so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Don’t think the steroids are helping with the anxiety 😬 xx
Hi lovely I’m so sorry the transfer hurt 😢 I hope you are feeling less sore today 💜 this happened to a friend of mine and it was the one that brought her her little girl ☺️ After several transfers that didn’t hurt and no success so don’t think it impacts success xx
Ps had my transfer too yesterday so we are 2WW buddies 🤗
My last transfer was not a pleasant one, the doctor couldn't get the catheter into my cervix after a few attempts he adjusted the speculum which was not pleasant then said I would feel a little pinch as he was going to move my cervix, the nurse started rubbing my arm and gave my husband a look to say this will hurt he held my hand tighter and it hurt like hell. When he finally got the catheter in it took two attempts to get the embro in. Took soo much longer than previous transfers and I was in a lot of pain I had bad cramping for over two weeks after was convinced I was going to get AF, but am now 11 weeks so fingers crossed you get the same outcome xx
Thank you SO much for this reassurance! Just what I needed to hear. Yesterday was a farce and I couldn’t help but feel so deflated as the poor embryo was in and out of the heater! Just hope it’s not damaged.
I started new meds tomorrow too so think I’m just a bit all over the place. It gives me hope that everything was ok for others so thank you again!
I’m pretty sore today and have had some spotting but I guess that’s to be expected as I feel I was butchered yesterday 🙊 xx
Mine kept popping out and landing on the floor, about 2 or 3 times! Dr said oh you must have strong pelvic floor 🙈🤣 I was like huh?? My Dr also had covid at the time (unknown to us) so I was very worried after but my first ever BFP and I really think the steroids played a part. Huge good luck, take it easy and when you feel you can go for some nice relaxing walks ❤️✨️❤️
Ah thanks for relying and for the reassurance, I think I’m just nervous as the embryo was in and out of the catheter! Hopefully it likes rollercoasters haha.
Hi Catlady, my second and successful FET seemed more of a hassle. I also had only just drunk enough water but it was borderline. And the doctor had to try getting the catheter in a few times, and different sizes. I think they had to take the embryo back out too… but eventually got it in and we could see it on the screen. Then a bumpy taxi ride really bothered me on the way home and sent my paranoia sky rocketing. However all was good and resulted in my BFP and in the end, my baby. Just shows you never know.
That’s exactly what I did. In fact I was so convinced it had gone wrong early I just assumed it would be false when I came to test and I did not test early. So it was a complete surprise when I was pregnant. Just shows you never know.
Not so similar, but I also have painful transfers. Last one (the one that resulted finally in a BFP) was painful. 2 days after the transfer i broke my foot so i needed an Xray. They gave me a special cream for the foot that has a susbtance that affects progesterone (told them I might be pregnant but they said I should take the cream as it was very painful). Then 3 days after the transfer I was positive to corona (which according to doctors reduces implantation chances... it has been my first time with corona), with lots of symptoms and I could not eat. I lost 4 kg in the 2ww. I thought I was out, but then I got my first BFP ever, and I had a quite bad start. Until now pregnancy seems healthy, but i had a terrible start.
There is always a chance. Something different during those weeks? I also slept a loooooot and watched lots of tv, because i could not go to work or walk. Other times I just do my nomal life, excersise carefully, etc. This was total resting. So maybe resting is not as bad as some doctors make it out to be.
Hey i have had two transfers both traumatic one resulted in a negative the other positive . I had one where they couldnt get passed aome blockage which they thought was my over excited right ovary pressing. 2nd one the blooming embryo got stuck in the catheter and when they did get the bugger in it came out covered in blood. That was the one that stuck, unfortunately i miscarried but that wasnt anything to do with transfer .. turns out my blood is all kinda of funky. So try not to worry too much and be kind to you xx
Sorry you’ve had a bit of a traumatic time too! These transfers are a nightmare aren’t they! Most of mine have been painful, but yesterday was a shit show and the first consultant doing it lost her nerve I think!!
I’m just hopeful after listening to these stories that it’s not all over just yet. So thank you, and I wish you the best of luck in the future xx
