Egg collection day tips

Hello everyone,

just wanted to share my first IVF/ICSI experience so see if I can connect with someone with similar experiences…

I am 36 and last year I found out I have very low egg reserve. Since then I began a myriad of tests and found out I have endometriosis (stage 4) and it’s gone to a lot of organs including kidneys… they Doctors told me to try for a baby asap as I will need invasive surgery in the near future and they could end up removing everything including ovaries. 🥺

I have since been since by the NHS who recommended IVF and luckily I have 1 free cycle with them. My husband also done a test and they found issues with sperm morphology therefore they recommended ICSI.

I also suffer with hyperthyroidism to add on too of the rest of the issues.

I started the injections at the beginning if the month and I have my last ones tonight before egg collection on Friday (I have been on Menopour 150, Gonal F 300 and Citrodide 250). Last scan yesterday showed only 4 follicles so they said they might go for day 3 transfer if it all goes well. Currently waiting on the results of blood test for progesterone levels and see if it’s all good.

Has anyone had similar experiences with good results? Any tips for my birthday treat on Friday, egg collection falls on my birthday 😊

Also, has anyone experienced high progesterone levels even if they had low egg count?

Thank you all 😊

Hiya, it sounds like you’ve been through the mill. What a lot of worry and stress. Exciting news about egg collection and getting this far though! My advice for egg collection day is to not be scared. It’s honestly not a scary experience and the drs will know exactly what they’re doing. I would also get some Lactalose in for the next day - I’ve not been able to go to the loo for days after each of mine and it made me so uncomfortable. A spoonful of that and you’ll be sorted! Wishing you lots of luck and happy birthday for Friday! 🎂💕🍀

Hi lovely, thank you so much for your advice. Honestly, every little helps especially as my nurse is not the most helpful 🥲 I will definitely get some of that as I already struggle as it is so I can’t imagine what will be like after surgery 😅 Thank you! Xxx

Comfy clothes, good set of movies and sleep! That's what I did after my first egg collection. Hope it is successful for you. We are on cycle 2.

Good luck for Friday! You might be feeling a little more bloated by then so comfy clothes is a must! Drink lots of fluid in the following days and eat well. That's all you can do! It's definitely not as scary as I worried it would be, they are so professional and it's done so quickly.

Fingers crossed for your retrieval and I really wish you the best of luck xx
