I am going for IVF for the first time and I am going ahead with using a donor egg but partners sperm. Just curious about whether the child would look anything like me or my partner? If Anyone has gone through this path of ivf please comment :)

Hi. I am also going doing a cycle with a donor egg. I've had 3 unsuccessful cycles with my own eggs ( I have very low amh and I'm 40), it was time to move on. We won't pass any dna onto the baby so it won't look like us, however if using your partners sperm could look like them. I'm using a Spanish clinic and they try really hard to match up your colouring and features so if resembles you as much as possible - honestly though people see what they want to see. My friend has donor conceived children and people are always telling her they look like her. Wishing you loads of luck with your cycle.

Thank you for your response! I am completely new to this whole thing and feel like I have no clue no matter how much research I do and talk to the doctors. I’m hoping it works the first time round. (Is that unlikely?) Good luck to you too! Hope it goes well!

I think chances are always better with donor eggs so it's possible it'll work first time. I've paid for a 5 embryo package but also hoping for first time success. I'm going out for various tests in a couple of weeks - receptivity and immunology so I think this will give me the best chance. I'm fairly new to the donor stuff myself but happy to chat about anything 😊

Google ‘epigenetics’ it’s still a new area but they reckon that a lot of your genes are passed to the baby during pregnancy so your body will influence the baby. It’s much more about where the egg came from and also about who carries the embryo and what they pass over those 9 months. It gave me a lot more confidence about going ahead with DE. Good luck x

Just to clarify but Epigenetics does not mean that the child would like you. So I would be careful taking that to heart. What it means is that your lifestyle, diet etc when you are pregnant is shown to have an effect on the baby health wise so I guess whethe they are tall or short so physical characteristics but that’s it x

Yes that was my understanding about donor eggs that some of your genetics are passed on through the power of magic( I meanGrowing and developing the cells in your own body)

I read about the 3 way genetic conception where 3 humans were used to produce one baby and that was just incredible.

My daughter is a donor egg with my husbands sperm our family and friends all know this but are always commenting how she looks like me 😂 personally I don’t see it but when she was born she was 100% the spitting image of her dad x

For me it doesn’t matter who she looks like - she looks like her and that’s all that matters. I believe personality and mannerisms are taught and in that way yes she is 100% me!

Best of luck x

That’s good to know! Thank you for the information. How long did the whole procedure take from start to finish. I have been quoted 8 days. (Doing it overseas) is that realistic ?

Thank you for your reply! Are you able to talk about your experience and the process you went through with donor egg. Was it successful first time? :) Thank you!

Hi. I don't have experience with donor eggs, but I have a degree in molecular biology. The epigenetics (so how the DNA is folded and what genes are expressed and how) is affected by the carrier of the baby and its surroundings and that can affect a lot, e.g. height, weight, stress tolerance and things like that. Furthermore, babies tend to copy gestures and non-verbals e.g. the way we talk and walk and facial expressions etc from our parents (probably thanks to our mirror neurons), which makes them resemble us more. It's always a combination of genes + surroundings + experiences that make us who we are.
