Who experienced OHSS?

Hello wonderful women, I am very scared I have the EC on Monday and my AMH is high so my response of the stimulation was high, although the dr has always been careful . I had many follicles and now I am scared… so far I am feeling good just a bit bloating but so far I am good. I do not know what to expect in terms of post EC and I am worry that I will end in the hospital or with severe complications. Any of you with experience or advices ? Thank you have. A lovely weekend :)

Heya. Does that mean you are triggering Saturday night? Is the doctor happy to let you go ahead with the planned trigger? If they are worried you are at risk of OHSS they can change your trigger to one that isn’t Hcg…. I felt pretty bad after EC - very bloated , stomach very sore, everything was achy. But it passed within 3 days without any medical intervention. If you do think you are starting with OHSS symptoms the key is drink a LOT (counter intuitive, I know - but it helps) , rest as much as you can, eat plenty of protein. And tell your clinic - they’ll advise too. They can also give you meds to calm it down if necessary.

But you may be absolutely fine! See how you get on x

Ah, then you should be fine. If you are triggering with busserelin I think that shouldn’t tip you into OHSS. I used busserelin on my first EC and was absolutely fine even though they collected 17 eggs 💪🤞 (the EC where I felt poorly was on a Gonasi trigger)

Good luck! x

Hi I also have high AMH and was told at risk for OHSS. I would imagine you've been give a non-hcg trigger? I had buserelin. I was told that should prevent OHSS. All I had after EC was pain and bloating which subsided after 3 days. Make sure you drink plenty of water, electrolyte drinks and eat protein (I had a high protein yogurt every day). Rest up, but try to move a little when you can. Best of luck x

Hi! I got mild OHSS on day 7 after my agonist trigger injection. On the day we were considering embryo transfer, so we caught it very timely and went for a frozen transfer as recommended by our clinic. I have PCOS, high AMH and had 32 follicles collected. I was advised by my clinic to drink protein shakes as protein helps absorb the extra fluid that builds up in your abdomen, drink when thirsty and make sure I drank enough electrolytes (I got some sport drinks for that). The OHSS lasted for about 3 days, it was quite painful but painkillers and a hot water bottle helped. I did a lot of reading on it and as far as I understand, the severe OHSS is most commonly the late onset one, i.e. the one that occurs if you have a fresh transfer in the same cycle because the placenta doubles the amount of hcg in your body every day. So if you have high AMH and OHSS concerns, you might want to consider a frozen transfer to give your body time to recover. My consultant said that the risk of OHSS goes to 0 as soon as you get your first period after IVF. I hope this helps. Fingers crossed that you don't get it!

I had severe OHSS last year and did spend a couple of weeks in hospital, that said it is fairly rare so try not to stress to much. As others have said hopefully the will adjust your trigger which will reduce the risk. I was also put in tablets to manage the effects before the trigger shot, but unfortunately for me everything was a bit to late.

If you do become unwell, I would say don’t be a hero and don’t be polite about it. Get the help you need as soon as you can as thing can get pretty rough if you don’t. You know your body and what’s normal/ right better than anyone,

I have pcos and I respond way too well to stims just like you!First round was cancelled for me, didn't even get to egg collection due to high e2 and crazy number of eggs.

Then second round I was also at risk for ohss as well but not like the first time and we proceeded to egg collection, I did get mild ohss but nothing severe...

With the next 3 rounds I suffered from mild ohss as well.

Hope everything goes well for you!

(oh and my trigger was cry low hcg in order to try to avoid ohss)

I have PCOS and a very high AMH. I had 40 follicles before starting medication so my dosage was low. They collected 16 mature eggs and I had OHSS for a week, I drank orange Lucozade and felt better after that. I am sure it is extremely rare to go to hospital, don’t worry. It’s down to the doctor to put you on the right dosage and monitor you closely. Best of luck! Xxx
